One thing I’ve noticed about younger people, including young queers, is their lack of ability to identify and comprehend subtext. They’re calling the scene where Frank N Furter seduces Janet and Brad dressed as Brad and Janet “rape”. Hello??? Did we watch the same movie? Like are y’all ok? I will gladly acknowledge that it’s icky when viewed through a modern lens… but it is NOT portrayed as or intended to represent rape. Due to the SUBTEXT!!! Which is that they both absolutely want to fuck Frank and end up accepting that and embracing their freaky desires. It’s about sexual liberation.

@AmeliaHorgan Yeah, so algorithm filters are definitely a factor. I feel like there’s a plurality of permissible ‘flavours’ of the who cares response. Like, “rising above it” is great, but I don’t think affirmation/vocal antagonism (for want of a better term) is wrong either

@AmeliaHorgan Like, if a contingent of men react extremely negatively to women’s academic achievements by appeal to attractiveness, fertility etc etc, I think a response of being *more* vocal and saying “ok, die mad about it” is at least permissible

@AmeliaHorgan I’m sure there’s different facets/maybe it’s my own feed, but I think this is an uncharitable interpretation. My impression of the trend has been an affirmation of pride/achievement not “hotness” (or male desirability)
