Excited to start my @BBSRC#SARIC funded PhD grazing trial today at @BangorUni's Henfaes Research Farm. We'll be grazing Welsh store rams on either a grass-clover or multispecies #herbal ley to measure #livestock productivity and greenhouse gas emissions. Keen for results! ๐๐ฟโ
Gwaith cynnes!
Busy day with a large team @BUEnvironment@ADASGroup at Henfaes! Applying slurry +/- separation ond grass regrowth, monitoring gaseous losses, N & P dynamics, and ultimately learning how to help max out the value of this brilliant resource on livestock farms ๐๐ฎ
Llongyfarchiadau mawr i Dr Louise McNicol ar ei doethuriaeth.
Big congrats to Dr Louise McNicol on gaining her colourful gown and floppy hat on Friday (also Dr @EmilyCooledge)! Louise is continuing her work on sustainable livestock systems @SRUC. @BangorUni does a great ceremony
The next paper from the #SARIC project is now out! ๐ฅณ Our study explored the effects of a #herbal and #grassclover ley on forage quality, #lamb productivity and health over two seasons. โ๏ธ๐๐ฑ

Had a fantastic morning discussing my thesis with Christine Watson and Chris Reynolds -- some great discussions! Happy to pass my PhD with minor corrections #PhDDone ๐ฅณ๐พ๐
Congratulations Dr @EmilyCooledge for passing her viva today. I learnt a huge ammount about sheep and herbal leys from chairing. @COESEpostgrads do such a fascinating variety of work! Thanks also to Christine Watson and Chris Reynolds the external examiners.

The Overall Impact Award went to a team led by Prof Davey Jones @bangorsoil at @BangorUni, at the 2023 NERC Impact Awards.
The award recognises their innovative work on tracing the COVID-19 pandemic via wastewater.
Congratulations to the whole team!

Last sequencing report showing the progression of SARS-CoV-2 variants in Wales over the last 2 years. @WEWASH3, @COVIDPoops19, @ViraquaProject. Thanks to @DrWillPerry for the beautiful graphic.
Great day discussing the results of the #SARIC herbal ley experiment with farmers and industry during the @BritishGrass visit to Henfaes Research Centre @BangorUni โ๏ธ๐ฑ๐ฟ๐ Herbal ley soil pit looks good!
There was also a short talk about herbal leys. Lambs on trial grew faster in the spring on herbal leys than on a grass-clover sward. There were also benefits in terms of macro and micronutrient supply in the forage
