If you'll be at #AGU24, please join us on Friday for "Advances in Quantifying and Attributing Climate Impacts and Damages to Inform Climate Risk Management and Litigation." We'll hear from researchers & practitioners working on climate attribution & applications to law & policy.
Yes, Helene dropped A LOT more rain because of climate change 🌧️
Studies from @MichaelFWehner & @ClimaMeter show the storm had between 20 & 50% more precipitation because of the warmer atmosphere & super warm Gulf 🌡️
My report from @NBCNews on Friday ⤵️
Numerous locations in the western United States, extending from the San Francisco Bay Area in California to the Front Range of Colorado, are currently experiencing their hottest temperatures on record for any October date. #CAwx#AZwx#COwx
While in CA the last few years may have sent drought to the back of our minds, this question of drought recovery might become relevant again this year. It’s starting to look awfully dry over the Western US (USDM image credit), and this current heatwave certainly can’t be helping.

We already knew that climate change has made droughts more intense across the western US--but what about drought recovery? In this paper, we show that climate change has shifted recovery probabilities, making it harder to get out of drought once we’re already in one.
This Wednesday @SenWhitehouse will chair an important hearing to shine more light on Big Oil’s ongoing climate deception.
At this crucial moment, @SenateBudget has the power to build on years of work in Congress to hold Big Oil accountable.

🙌 My book has a cover!
If you look closely, you'll see that it at least partly represents the trajectory of the argument. 😉
H/T @ed_hawkins for the #ClimateStripes on which the cover puns...

February 2024 was the warmest February on record in the ERA5 dataset, at around 1.79C above preindustrial records.
It beat the prior record set during the 2016 super-El Nino by 0.12C: https://t.co/MT8nn5ZtuR
