Tell me a joke became a slide for each class (my seniors are so punny!)
The last one was a drawing and I gave them 45 seconds to do it 🤣. Maybe a gallery will be next.
Thx to @saravdwerf for the inspiration for name tents & @BurnsideMath for first day suggestion "tell me a strength." Exhausting writing back to each student but well worth it. Their Qs to me were so fun, especially the ones about why I love math #mtbos#iteachmath
@mathequalslove I can spot two because I used them with my 2.5 hour (yep) advisory on the first day of school. Win for ink stains and making 12 squares! Thank you so much for the resources!
Last year I asked my students as a check-in Star Wars vs Star Trek... most of their answers started "Well, my parents really like..." So I need something more currently relevant. Any ideas? #teach180#mtbos
@LeeanneBranham @Desmos To add on to what others have said, including some more challenging screens or marble slides for students who finish the given task quickly. Mine will dive deep into the marble slides. Also, I leave the dashboard up (anonymized names) to quickly gauge progress as I walk around.
@stoodle@Desmos I know you asked this almost a year ago, but I'm finally back here and starting to think about first days. Here's what I've been using. I think I'll make a mash up with some more of the slides you posted. https://t.co/k783nkLWs8
@abel_jennifer@zanzane@stoodle@sandrasoupmaker@MrReisner@hfxmark@joshchanyh@nerdypoo Hi Zane and thanks for the tag Jennifer! I tell my students to review functions, specifically transformations. I think the more easily they can identify the "shape" of a function, the more that it will helps with the HL curriculum (speaking more to A&A here).
@AroundTheNFL I'm a math teacher & was listening to Thursday's show this morning. While it's true that most adults are not likely to use algebra (the stuff w/ xs and ys), what you're learning is to think logically and persevere when challenged. W/ Browns out, Go Bengals! #mtbos
@cmmteach@CAPublicHealth Well, I had no idea about this, having left CA, but I was able to get mine with just my phone number... Sorry that yours isn't being found!
Inspired by the #EFFL lessons from @CalcMedic and blog post from @MrKitMath , I created a lesson on HCF and LCM for today with my grade 8s. Some great conversations were heard and the formalization will come next class. #mtbos#iteachmath#MYPmath
