It's not the economic data or company results that lead the stock or bond markets, or share price. It is the other way around.

Japan is suddenly "back" in the headlines as bond yields surge.

But this move didn't come out of nowhere.

Back in July 2022, we warned that "an explosive rise is coming" in the 10-year Japanese Government Bond yield. Our Elliott wave analysis flagged it early, reinforced by a classic double-bottom pattern that told us the long deflationary era was ending.

Since then, the 10-year JGB yield has risen from 0.17% to 2.35%.

Why that matters far beyond Japan.

As domestic yields rise, Japanese institutions have less incentive to buy foreign bonds. And Japan isn't just any investor - it's the largest foreign holder of U.S. Treasuries, with over $1 trillion in exposure.

As JGB yields rise, expect less lending to the U.S.

Less lending means more pressure on America’s already massive debt burden.

Japan may have been forgotten for decades, but its bond market is now sending a clear global warning.
