What a joy to be back in Parliament with our brilliant team of women who made the coercive control law a reality. The law was pioneering and it’s helped thousands and thousands of victims. We centered victims voices in our campaign. Laws must reflect the reality of women’s and children’s experiences. We gave it a name, language, legal framework and lens. It’s been a game changer with many countries following our lead. I’m proud of what our incredible team achieved 💜

We often look at all the things that must be improved (including increasing the sentence to at least 10 years) but it’s important to mark and celebrate a monumental accomplishment like this. It was history in the making - and that’s worth talking about 💜

Every time we talk about coercive control- another person understands what happened to them and can take action 💜

It is beyond belief that Cafcass recommended, and the court ordered, overnight contact for a child with a father who had had numerous findings of extremely serious domestic abuse against him over a sustained period of time. It’s horrendous that courts are continuing to prioritise a perpetrator father’s rights over the safety of the child and mother. This is why transparency is so important. Without @AndhaBandar shining a spotlight on this case no one would be aware of this appalling decision. I hope the mother is going to appeal.
