Supporting our girls and women who’ve experienced sexual & gender-based violence and displacement in Ethiopia. “Enagñ” is an invocation to shoulder their pain.
Consistent pattern over yrs of massacres on Amhara; in spite of govt alleging OLA or “Oneg Shene” as perpetrators, when vulnerable beg for intervention nothing is done to safeguard them. This in spite of Oromia maintaining strongest, non-embargoed, security apparatus in Ethiopia.
In Oromia, 3 separate massacres, of Orthodox Christian and Amhara result in 36 dead. Children not spared.
“‘They targeted Orthodox Christians’
Another 8, including babies, were killed in an attack on a third village in the area...”

According to report released today, “…assailants dragged the dead out of their homes…among the dead were pregnant women, inclu infants, & elderly…local residents told the commission that they are still receiving repeated threats & pleaded w/ the govt…”

Four years have passed since the 17 #Amhara university students were abducted in Oromia, Ethiopia. Their whereabouts remain unknown, leaving families in anguish. #NoExcuse to amplify & demand answers. #16Days#BringBackAmharaStudents
75% of #Amhara#CRSV victims endured heart-wrenching horrors, with families being forced to witness the rape. Many of them were gang raped by at least 3 Tigray soldiers during the TPLF invasion of the Amhara region. Justice is overdue—let's be a voice for accountability. #16Days
Comments from @JohnJamesMI@sydneykamlager@RepJasonCrow were helpful to underscore existing pattern of state violence, repression, & lack of mechanisms for accountability.
Amhara won’t survive under conditions of continued impunity & dereliction of duty.

The Amhara region is currently facing a double emergency of confilct and mass dispalcement. UNICEF is providing basic services to affected people, particularly women and #children.
The subcommittee on Africa seldom mentioned Amhara region & people in spite of facing a second debilitating war w/ no signs of cessation nor urgency to support resolution. The Ethiopian govt shut down comms, is deploying drones, & committing war crimes. Yet, nothing. #WarOnAmhara
In attendance at the House Committee on Foreign Affairs | Subcommittee on Africa Hearing: Ethiopia: Promise or Perils The State of U.S. Policy. All I can say is that the Amhara people and those interested in saving Ethiopia and pursing unity, justice and peace ARE ON THEIR OWN…but most of you already knew that and I urge you to continue to press on and fight for the future of Ethiopia ON YOUR TERMS.
“It’s the frailty of men which causes them to harm women.” @sydneykamlager commenting on #SGBV during Ethiopia’s wars in the House of Foreign Affairs Subcommittee hearing. #16Days#NoExcuse

Since the start of the #WarOnAmhara, there’s been very little reporting on the condition of this incredibly vulnerable population; easing the impunity of perpetrators. #16days#SGBV#NoExcuse

In October, @EthioHRC reported 200 IDPs & health professionals were raped in ongoing war Ethiopian govt has waged.
Amhara IDPs, already vulnerable from atrocities in Tigray war and/or ethnic cleansing in Oromia, are victims, again, by the state. #16days#WarOnAmhara#NoExcuse
We want a world where women and girls can live free from fear.
In every heartbeat.
With every breath.
At every step.

The Ethiopian government’s telecommunications shutdown in Amhara region has made it possible to hide war crimes and atrocities, disrupt remittances, stunt education, and hamper banking and agricultural sectors. Some of the stories of those affected:

Prime Minister @AbiyAhmedAli, internet shutdowns cannot continue!
Weaponising the internet is no good—people in the Amhara region are paying a harsh price. It has been over 100 days. Reconnect Amhara now! #KeepItOn

“The District of Mojana Wedera reached 98.5% although vaccination started later due to security reasons…this was made possible thanks to negotiations between the health Teams and the Amhara popular force/FANO, after which the district finally initiated its OCV campaign.”
