get obsessed with being interesting again. read weird stuff. take the long way home. learn an instrument. sit by water. talk to old people. fall in love. get your heart broken. live. routine is starving your soul
I am kind to LLMs for the same reason that I try to avoid stepping on ants if I can avoid it: not because I think they are conscious, but because unnecessary cruelty is bad for the soul
I'm a big fan of the "Tell Them Theory"
Seriously, if your waiter was awesome, tell them. If your friend looks great, let her know. Did someone inspire you? Shoot them a message. Your colleague handled a tough situation like a pro? Tell them that. A small business really impressed you? Go leave them a review. You admire how consistent someone is? Speak up! Does your partner make you feel loved? Make sure they know. Someone's smile brightened your whole day? Tell them! Was someone's courage inspiring? Let them know it. A friend stuck by you through thick and thin? Remind them how much that meant.
Being kind is most powerful when you actually say it out loud. Be that person who makes someone feel a little more confident in themselves.
The first ever religion known to man was animism, the belief that all things in nature possess a soul. The water, the trees, the wind, every bug or animal.
"How was the left radicalized?"
Bro, I'm not radicalized. Literally all of my political views are just extrapolations of the most basic premises of human decency.
Universal healthcare isn't
"radical." I figured that one out when I was, like, 8 years old.
Get a grip.
the weird thing about reading so much as a child and gaining a huge vocabulary from that is I can't define a lot of words i use, i just…know that they would fit correctly in a specific sentence. does anyone else experience that 😭?
the most underrated act of kindness is letting people be. let them mispronounce a word, talk too much about a show they love, or get excited about something you don't understand. everyone has something that lights them up. let them shine, even if it's not your thing.
