Happy International Women & Girls In Science Day 🔭🔋🧬🌿⚙️🧪
It was a pleasure to sit on this @DEI_durham panel again with some amazing women from academia, industry & government. We hope it’ll inspire school students that STEM has a place for them!

@jadobbyne@CrossCountryUK The LNER one isn’t stopping at Durham (it needs to try to get to Glasgow as well) so I’m staying on CrossCountry (there are 2 trains, one ahead on Platform 5) as I’d prefer not to risk it with messing about at Darlo or Newcastle with these issues and late buses etc.
@CrossCountryUK No worries, thanks for the quick reply. Adrian on your onboard team has been really helpful and kind, so it would be great if you can pass-on how fantastic they have been! Many thanks to them and all the other crew too 😊
@nationalrailenq@CrossCountryUK I’m travelling to Durham, should I stay on the Cross Country train currently on platform 5a in York station or move to the LNER service on Platform 9 (even though it doesn’t seem to be stopping at Durham)? I’m panicking as almost everyone has left your train!
@LNER I was wondering if you can advise: the EMR service I was going to get from Nottingham to Sheffield has been cancelled and it appears the one from Sheffield to Durham has too! I booked through LNER (this is the return leg) but not sure if I can board different services!
@LNER hi team, currently sitting on the stationary 19:30 KGX -> DHM which is stuck near Doncaster behind a train with a fault. Any indication when we might get moving again? Travelling with my cat 😿
@LNER is the 21:23 northbound from Stevenage (to Durham) impacted by the issues? It says fine on the LNER app but just ‘delayed’ on National Rail live departures. If it happens to be okay, are seat reservations still applied?
@LNER hi, our train from DHM -> EDB at 10:25 was delayed by ~50 mins and now has been equivalent to cancelled (terminating at Newcastle), what is our fastest/best option? Should we get the 11:17 to Edinburgh?
@Lara_Fergie99@RachelListening this is unsurprising but still such a disgrace and unacceptable. Please let me know if I can help at all once the petition is launched (though look after your own energy first!) x
Students have our backs and we must have theirs. This latest attack on international students shows that the government will continue to stoop lower and lower.
It is incumbent on us all to speak out on this injustice.
Universities: “We support #AcademicMentalHealth”
Us: “Reduce workloads, accommodate disabled and neurodivergent staff, increase stipends, take action against bullies, increase postdoc salaries, create more permanent jobs”
Universities: “Not like that”
@OpenAcademics
Is @durham_uni still giving out free cereal to help with the cost of living?
Because they've just announced they're going to start charging PGRs £2800 a year while writing up their thesis.
Well done @GaryLineker for standing up for refugees.
Well done @IanWright0 for showing the meaning of solidarity.
Now, let's mobilise against a politics of cruelty, and defeat this inhumane, illegal & immoral legislation.
@KristyChampion1@audioUprising@sianharries_ I’m currently designing generators, so I may be a bit more of a unique case with how much geometry I use! Again, we use it day to day but the overlap between geometry, nature and art is astonishing, it’s important to learn about it (sadly, not always taught in exciting ways tho)
