Fascinating pre-print article pouring cold water on the notion of human exTregs in general and CD4+CD16+CD56+ exTregs in particular. This debate will be interesting to follow!
Congratulations to LUDC researchers Daniel Engelbertsen and Alexandru Schiopu who have been awarded a grant of SEK five million by The Swedish Heart Lung Foundation @hjartlungfonden 👏 Their project aims to identify treatments that can prevent new heart attacks. #cancer#diabetes
The study was supported by @hjartlungfonden, Crafoord Foundation, the Swedish Research Council, Albert Påhlsson Foundation and spearheaded by Megan Mulholland in collaboration with our wonderful collaborators at University of Leiden and Cantargia! @medfak_LU@DiabetesLUDC
Our new study ‘Interleukin-1 receptor accessory protein blockade limits the development of atherosclerosis and reduces plaque inflammation’ is now published in Cardiovascular Research (https://t.co/xEFz3W8e46).
IL1RAP blockade is being evaluated in clinical trials to limit tumor growth (Nadunolimab) and to treat autoimmune conditions (CAN10). Our work suggests that IL1RAP blockade may limit atherosclerotic disease, but studies in humans are required to evaluate clinical efficacy.

Great to see this effort with @BjorkbackaLab and @EngelbertsenLab published and featured as Editor’s Choice.
Congratulations Megan on this well deserved award! For those attending AAI #immunology23 in Washington DC next month, I recommend stopping by her poster presentation for updates on our work on the role of immune checkpoints in atherosclerosis!
Congratulations to PhD student Megan Mulholland @EngelbertsenLab at LUDC, who is the winner of the 2022 JACC: CardioOncology young author achievement award. She discusses her research in this podcast episode: https://t.co/odxhdj7CHf

Congratulations to LUDC researcher Daniel Engelbertsen who receives SEK three million from @hjartlungfonden for a research project which will investigate the causes of heart attack and stroke. @svtnyheter visited the @EngelbertsenLab to learn more. https://t.co/uKVaY4Q8hz
The study was a multi-site collaboration between our lab, Andrew Lichtman and Annabelle Rodriguez (@HDLHeart). Big thanks to all co-authors! An excellent editorial perspective by @sumanthprabhu01 can be found here: https://t.co/rIkm72fI9r
Happy to share our latest study investigating the role of the immune checkpoint molecule LAG3 in experimental atherosclerosis, out now in JACC:Cardiooncology! #JACCJournals#cardiooncology
https://t.co/2uHXol6hTh
We demonstrate that genetic loss or antibody-mediated blockade of LAG3 promotes T cell activation and accumulation of T cells in atherosclerotic plaques. This is of particular interest given the recent FDA approval of anti-LAG3/anti-PD1 for treatment of melanoma.
@l_tomas01 Well done, nice to see so much emphasis on the dynamics! Human translation is difficult, looking forward to someone trying deuterium-labeling in endarterectomy patients to track cells in plaque over time 10.1084/jem.20170355

High IL-2Rβγ signalling results in activation of inflammatory and regulatory lymphocytes with a net zero effect on AS and decreased plasma cholesterol levels. Changes in chol. levels are associated with reductions in hepatic LXR-related gene expression

Looking forward to the results of Treg-stimulating low-dose IL-2 trials in CVD patients (LILACS trial) and studies investigating the use of IL-2Rbeta agonistic IL-2 (bempegaldesleukin) in patients with solid tumors.

Our recent study of IL-2R signaling in atherosclerosis is available at @ATHjournal! https://t.co/EomklzMDvi
The paper describes the lymphocyte activating and cholesterol modulating effects of IL-2R(beta-gamma) agonisms leading to a net zero effect on atherosclerosis. (1/2)
