Energy / Power X:
Does anyone have a copy of BEBS S5 (1956) 🤔
“General Specification for Outdoor 275 kilovolt and Lower Voltage Switchgear (1956)”
I’ve tried @energynetworks and waiting on the IET. Grid didn’t keep one. Need to try the Scots..
Any PDF gratefully received
Cheeky DLC on a 400kV feeder after tweaking the voltage selection a bit. Yeah, Reyrolle B11 contact pressure again…. I had no running volts. But it would have sat primed until the end of time 🤩
Today, May 29, 2026, is an important day for EconiQ®. The world’s first 550 kV gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) free of SF₆ is energized at SGCC’s Wuhan Yuxian substation.
This is the world's very first SF₆-free GIS at transmission-voltage level in permanent service!
Another major milestone in delivering eco-efficient, high-voltage solutions at scale. ⚡🌱
EconiQ - reliable, compact, scalable and with the lowest carbon footprint.

ON THIS DAY, MAY 30
I've actually struggled to find much to report for today. So instead, please enjoy this awesome thread on the SuperGrid from @EngineerLondon

Today in 1982, British paras and commandos mount a successful attack on a fortified Argentine airfield at Goose Green in the Falklands. Casualties are heavy. Among the fallen is the commander of the assault, Lt-Col Herbert Jones. He will receive the Victoria Cross posthumously.
On this day in 1982, the Battle of Goose Green begins as 2 PARA engage Argentine positions at Goose Green and Darwin.
The first and longest land battle of the Falklands War, 18 lives were lost as British forces battled against vastly superior numbers. 🇫🇰🇬🇧

As we face another fossil fuel shock, households are taking control.
2025 was the biggest year ever for solar deployment, with 269,000 installations completed across the UK - and nine of the ten strongest months on record happening in the past year. ☀️

Anyone know when these recited began? Technically transmission in Britain started in the mid 1920s with the LPC 66 kV system in London, later inherited by the CEB after the 1926 Act… 😉
Britain’s electricity system recorded its lowest ever transmission demand today: 12.62GW between 13:00–13:30.
Sunny weather, high solar generation and the bank holiday weekend all contributed to the lower level seen on the network. ☀️
The system operated securely throughout.
