Including stellar surface magnetism in models of limb darkening resolves an outstanding discrepancy with observations. This enables improved characterization of transiting exoplanets and a method for measuring stellar magnetization. Kostogryz et al.: https://t.co/GUy8T1gutU
What a wonderful era we live in: watching a total eclipse from Mexico via @NASA while my dear friend @erajpg explains it via @NSF (including polarimetry and magnetic fields explanations!)
@imartividal@pcoffeebreak Usaron gradientes de intensidad? Interesante, tengo que ver el código. Normalmente se usan los ángulos de polarization que son los que dan la orientation del Bfield.
I just learned from this post that the 1st astrophysics article by a Spanish astronomer was in 1966 and it was about polarization of the zodiacal light!

@ohdearz Amazing! Those filamentary structures resemble the Bfield structures we have observed in both galaxies. I wonder how coupled they are and their effect.
I’m very excited to officially share that I’ll start as Associate Professor at @UofSC this Fall!
Your hub for extragalactic magnetism 🧲🌀🌌
We will be looking for several new faculty to join us in the next few years, stay tuned for some news soon.
So what does our spiral pattern tell us about the magnetic fields around Sagittarius A*? The field is actually strong and ordered!

Breaking news: the Event Horizon Telescope team unveils strong magnetic fields spiraling at the edge of Milky Way’s central black hole, Sagittarius A*. This new image suggests that strong magnetic fields may be common to all black holes.

@IBJIYONGI Strong ordered Bfields are spatial with the molecular gas in the galactic disk are already formed at z=2.6

New paper! Tram and I estimated the dust grain alignment mechanisms present in a galaxy using far-infrared polarimetric observations. Grains are aligned by B-fields, of course, and we now provide their size distributions.

@IBJIYONGI This work is focused on the physical properties of the dust grain sizes, alignment mechanisms, measurable polarization. Not much about the B-field, except that needs to be >uG (but we know that). Our other SALSA papers are more insightful about that topic.
