We didn’t come together by accident.

This community was formed because of a shared belief — a belief in using crypto for good, inspired by the vision of Ethereum and the ideas consistently advocated by @VitalikButerin .

That belief is what brought us here. And it’s also what keeps us here today.

Over time, our community — now more than 1,900 members across 100+ countries — collectively contributed over 280 ETH. This was not a small decision. It reflects trust, conviction, and a genuine desire to create real-world impact.

We chose to support the process led by Effective Altruism (@EffectvAltruism ) organizations because we recognize and respect the important work they do. The principles of careful evaluation, due diligence, and maximizing impact are exactly why many of us believed this was the right path.

We understand that organizations like Effective Altruism operate with a high level of responsibility, and that due diligence takes time. We respect that process, and we continue to support it.

At the same time, as time passes without communication, uncertainty naturally begins to grow within the community.

Many members are now asking simple, reasonable questions:
Where are the funds currently held?
What stage has the due diligence reached?
What are the expected next steps?

These are not accusations — they come from a place of trust and responsibility.

We are not here to criticize Effective Altruism. On the contrary, we believe in its mission and appreciate the effort and care that goes into making impactful decisions.

But transparency and communication are essential, especially when a global community has come together in good faith.

Without updates, even strong belief can begin to weaken.

We are still here. We have not stepped away. And we genuinely want this initiative to succeed.

A simple update — any form of communication — would go a long way in maintaining trust and keeping this community united.

We also hope that @VitalikButerin , whose vision inspired many of us to take this step, might be aware of the current situation and, if possible, help bring some attention to it.

Because this is not just about the funds.

It’s about trust.
It’s about accountability.
And it’s about whether decentralized communities can effectively coordinate to do good in the real world.

We remain committed.

现在的一级市场二级市场，大家都在急着变现。
流动性越来越差，每个人都盯着退出窗口，没人愿意多等一秒。这没什么好指责的——资本的世界里，耐心是奢侈品，不是日用品。
我也在这个市场里。但最近，我开始慢慢静下心来，做了一件需要耐心的事。

这件事的起点，是一个叫AWF的代币。
它的机制很简单：每笔交易收2%的税，这笔钱用于捐赠动物救助。
其实这个项目最早是因为 @VitalikButerin 再次捐赠了64个ETH给动物福利基金，才被大家看到的。那时候市值一下冲到接近600万。但热度过后，慢慢没人再提起，市值一度跌到30多万。

后来，社区里的人把项目重新捡了起来，一点点有了起色，前后捐赠了大概五六十万美元。可终归抵不过时间。有人来，有人走。更让人难受的是动物福利基金的“冷暴力”——收到了这么一大笔捐款，却几乎一声不吭。社区里甚至开始有人怀疑：钱是不是进了个人的口袋？
人心就是这样一点一点散掉的。

但就在项目快要被彻底遗忘的时候，我们这群不甘心的人——把它又捧了起来。

自从开始建设这个项目，我的推特首页突然变了样。算法像是一下子看穿了我，每天推给我的都是——被铁链拴到皮包骨的狗、被遗弃在雨夜的猫、被活生生偷走送上餐桌的伴侣动物。

每刷到一条，心就揪一次。
我不理解。为什么会有人对生命毫无敬畏？
但我又能理解。人本来就是多样的，每个人都有自己的想法。只是有些想法，让人心寒。

我从17年开始养动物，现在家里有两猫一狗。
养过宠物的人都知道，动物是有感情的。你下班回家，狗会在门口摇尾巴；你心情不好，猫会悄悄蹭过来趴在你腿上。它们会表达，会依赖，会用它们有限的方式告诉你：我知道你对我好。
但大部分人选择忽视。

小时候在农村。那时候农村环境不好，偷东西的事时有发生，所以家家户户养狗。那些狗不是什么名贵品种，就是土狗，但它们是真的在看家。陌生人靠近，它们第一个冲出去叫。夜里有什么动静，它们比谁都警觉。
可它们防不了偷狗的。
一针麻药，一根套索，一条命就没了。
动物保护了人，却保护不了自己。
这就是���哀。

做慈善这件事，我一开始不敢想。
没那个资金。自己也就是个普通人，每个月房贷车贷一还，哪来的余力去捐款？

但在建设AWF的过程中，我慢慢想明白了一个道理。
一开始我也不理解：为什么这么好的事，大家不来参与？
后来我懂了。人对长期的事情是没有耐心的。大多数人买这个代币，不是因为想做慈善，而是因为它能涨。是因为有预期。

人是一种很奇怪的动物。
你跟他说：“捐点钱吧，帮助流浪动物。”他大概率会拒绝。不是因为他冷漠，而是他自己也活得不容易。
但你跟他说：“有个币，你买了大概率会涨，不过每笔交易有2%的税，这个税会捐给动物救助。”他会毫不犹豫地买入。

毕竟人都是利己的。自己都吃不饱穿不暖就谈慈善，其实很虚伪。这是人之常情，没什么可羞耻的。
所以后来我想明白了：2%的交易税作为捐款，即使他不是真的想捐，但他愿意为这个“能涨”的预期买单。这就够了。
既能满足利己的心，同时也能帮到动物救助。
所以我们不希望这个代币就这样结束了。

最开始，社区只有10个人。
10个互不相识的人，在一个群里，每天讨论怎么把这个事做下去。
慢慢地，10个人变成了100多人，又从100多人变成了1000多人。
印尼的、巴西的、韩国的伙伴，一个一个加进来。还有一位曾经建设$4的外国友人，他没有透露自己来自哪个国家，只是默默地付出，默默地坚持。

巴西有两位伙伴，让我印象特别深。
一位每天在想怎么写好文章、怎么宣传。就为了让更多人看到。
另一位，我们叫他“海绵宝宝”。因为他的头像是海绵宝宝。他在YouTube有8万粉丝，在Instagram有5万粉丝。不算大网红，但也不是小透明了。
他���天买10美元。不是很多，但每天都买。从不间断。
今天，他说终于买够了他的筹码。
不为别的。他就是想帮。

来自全球不同人种、不同肤色的人，都在为这个项目努力着。语言不通就靠翻译软件，时差不同就轮流盯。大家只有一个共同的心愿：希望能捐赠更多的资金，帮到更多的动物。

上个星期，社区的氛围降到了冰点。
价格跌了，热情淡了，群里安静得可怕。有些人走了，有些人开始怀疑。
就在这个时候，我们的群友奥斯汀带来了一条消息。
基金会的金主，正式回复了。
那个晚上，群里炸了。
“真的吗？！”“确认了？！”“天哪！”……
大家像疯了一样刷屏。有人发了流泪的表情，有人连发了好几条语音喊了出来。那种感觉很难形容——就好像在黑暗里走了很久，突然看到一束光。
从那以后，只要有一点点希望，我们都会在X上不停地宣传这个项目。
不是为了拉盘，不是为了炒作。
只是想让更多人知道：有一个地方，你买一个代币，它会涨，同时它也会救一条命。

我不知道这个项目最后会走向哪里。
也许它会归零，也许它会成为一段被遗忘的记忆。
但我知道的是：那些来自印尼、巴西、韩国、还有那位匿名的朋友，以及海绵宝宝、奥斯汀和所有坚持下来的人——我们没有白费力气。
至少这段时间，因为我们的坚持不断有人参与项目，贡献了2%的交易税，那些钱变成了流浪动物的粮食、疫苗和手术费。
动物保护了人。
人这一次，也该保护动物了。
它们也值得被好好对待。

Day 18: Lulu the Kangaroo

Today, we travel to Australia to look back at a unique event that forever reshaped how researchers view the intelligence and deep attachment of marsupials.

In 2003, 52 year old farmer Len Richards was checking his property in Victoria after a severe storm. Suddenly, a massive tree branch snapped and crashed directly onto him, causing a severe head injury. Len lost consciousness and was left bleeding in the dense woods. No one was around except Lulu - a pet kangaroo the Richards family had rescued as a helpless joey years prior.

Realizing her rescuer was in mortal danger, the kangaroo dashed back to the farmhouse. She began frantically pounding her paws against the closed door, making an unbelievable racket. When the farmer’s 17 year old daughter, Celeste, rushed out to investigate, Lulu immediately bolted back toward the thicket, making strange, bark like sounds to guide her. The kangaroo led Celeste straight to the exact spot where her father lay.

Remarkably, an animal wild by nature acted with the precision of a trained rescue dog. Arriving paramedics managed to stabilize Leonard just in time, later confirming that it was a matter of minutes, and without Lulu, the farmer would not have made it. For her incredible bravery, the kangaroo was officially honored with the national Animal Valour Award by the RSPCA.

Loyalty knows no boundaries of species, and sometimes even the most unexpected creature of the wild can become a guardian angel, ready to sound the alarm in our darkest hour.

Recently, we once again observed on-chain activity showing that the foundation has withdrawn an additional 104 ETH, with an estimated value of approximately $200,000 at current prices.

This is not an isolated occurrence.

Over the past period, funds have continued to be moved, yet at the same time, a fundamental question remains unanswered:

Have these donations been officially received and acknowledged? How are they being allocated? Is there any transparent mechanism for reporting their usage?

Our repeated inquiries are not driven by doubt in the mission itself, but by a basic principle of responsibility and trust.

Our community spans over 100 countries with more than 2,000 members, who came together in a short period of time in response to a shared call. Every contribution represents not just a number, but real trust, expectation, and action.

As the total contributions grow and on-chain data continues to show fund movements without communication, this imbalance is gradually eroding confidence within the community.

Transparency is not an additional request — it is the foundation of any initiative involving public donations.

Communication is not a burden — it is the most direct way to sustain trust.

We understand that large organizations may face complex processes and delayed responses. We also recognize that coordinating resources on a global scale is not easy. However, precisely for this reason, even the simplest acknowledgment or basic clarification would make a meaningful difference.

Otherwise, every on-chain transaction raises new questions, and every silence is perceived as distance.

And once distance forms, trust becomes fragile.

At this point, we would also like to respectfully call upon @VitalikButerin to take notice of this situation.

As a central figure in the Ethereum ecosystem, his voice carries significant influence across the global community. It was his vision and call to action that brought many of us together in the first place, enabling this cross-border, grassroots effort.

Therefore, we sincerely ask:

If possible, we hope Vitalik could help amplify this matter — even a simple acknowledgment, a repost, or a brief statement would greatly strengthen community confidence and help encourage transparency and communication.

This is not only a response to the more than 2,000 participants involved, but also a reflection of the principles of decentralized trust itself.

We still believe in the sincerity of this mission. That is why the community continues to persist, to document, and to wait.

But at the same time, we must also be clear:

Goodwill deserves acknowledgment. Trust requires maintenance. Transparency must be established.

Today’s 104 ETH is not just a number — it is a signal that this situation has reached a point where it needs to be addressed.

We will not stop paying attention, and we will not stop speaking up.

Because for us, this is not only about the funds — it is about whether a global community is being truly heard and respected.

Over the last few months, something unusual has happened in the Effective Altruism ecosystem.

A small, volunteer-driven crypto community built around the AWF ETH CTO project has collectively directed approximately 300 ETH (roughly $600,000 USD, depending on market prices) toward animal welfare causes. These funds were generated through a novel mechanism: transaction fees from a community-governed cryptocurrency project dedicated to supporting animal welfare.

The concept is simple.

Instead of relying exclusively on traditional fundraising campaigns, the project attempts to transform market activity into charitable giving. As the ecosystem grows, trading activity generates fees, and those fees are directed toward animal welfare funding. In theory, more adoption leads to more donations.

Whether one believes crypto is the future of philanthropy or not, the result deserves attention: hundreds of thousands of dollars have been directed toward helping animals.

Yet despite this achievement, the project has received remarkably little recognition from the broader Effective Altruism community.

Many of the volunteers behind the initiative spend countless hours promoting the cause, educating newcomers, sharing transparency reports, and encouraging responsible participation. Their motivation is not personal profit alone; it is the belief that innovative funding mechanisms can unlock entirely new sources of capital for high-impact charities.

Meanwhile, the animals who benefit from these donations have no voice of their own.

They cannot advocate for funding.
They cannot campaign for attention.
They cannot tell their stories.

So a community of volunteers is trying to do that for them.

The question is not whether every crypto project deserves praise. Most do not.

The question is whether the Effective Altruism movement should pay attention when a community successfully channels significant resources toward one of its own priority causes.

If a grassroots experiment has already generated roughly $600,000 for animal welfare, what might be possible if researchers, fund managers, donors, builders, and community members engaged with it seriously?

Perhaps the project will fail.

Perhaps it will succeed beyond expectations.

But ignoring a potentially scalable source of funding for animal welfare seems inconsistent with a movement dedicated to finding effective ways to do good.

Innovation often begins at the edges.

The AWF ETH CTO community has demonstrated commitment, transparency, and a willingness to experiment with new funding models. At a minimum, that effort deserves discussion.

Animal welfare needs more resources.

The people working on this project believe they have found one possible way to generate them.

Shouldn't we at least be paying attention?
