@SandipP61970438 @anaesthetic_spr F1s are as useful to a department as the doctors who train them. Says a lot about how your department treats them as far as I’m concerned. Being supernumerary, you don’t even pay to have them there, the least you can do is train them to be useful.

@brightside1974 @RCEMpresident ED needs to focus on the medical treatment. Doing a drug screen won’t change the clinical management so not indicated. For it to be evidential needs proper chain of custody with police - so would have to take another sample. These tests give false positives/negatives.

@ishpoo43 @MiloKostusiak I’m not sure it will be. I currently stay late, and ER, and I get paid for my extra hours. Never had an ER refused. This proposed change won’t earn me any more money.

The main issue is ppl not bothering to do it, and I’m not convinced this new system proposed will change that.

@trentconsultant @juliaisobela @FHawksworth BCDD at A level & 2.ii in biomed. Then passed GEM with distinction, top rank for FY, rank 12/550 for ACCS, passed all RCEM exams first time in top 10%, now a consultant. Pre-med academics don’t really reflect anything. I’m glad my GEM uni ignored my pre-med qualifications

The worst thing about this is that people have been raising concerns about how horrific working at UHB has been since at least 2018, but it’s taken 2 suicides of junior doctors for anyone to be bothered to do anything about it

@Abi_Rimmer I’ve joked with my husband many times about the fact that I spent the day at work giving heroin (diamorphine) to kids.

I’m also always amused when parents don’t want me giving ketamine (as it’s a “street” drug) but will happy agree to heroin instead.

@errjustsaying @RoshanaMN So many times as a junior doc I have taken a history that has completely changed when the consultant asked the same questions - Did you have any chest pain answered “no” to me, but “well maybe” to the consultant, which led to follow up questions and a different diagnosis.

@errjustsaying @RoshanaMN I bet at least one of those “nurses” was a doctor. Yes, it is important for each person seeing the patient to ask their own history - otherwise you can get a lot of bias or miss important nuances that change the potential diagnosis.

@pope2023 @rheumipainmask @JonJHilton Annual leave is paid time, and therefore included in the pay calculation. This is true for all occupations - the hourly rate of everyone includes paid AL.

Also, many junior doctors don’t actually get to take their AL due to poor staffing so end up working it anyway.

@pope2023 @rheumipainmask @JonJHilton So they are contracted to work 40 hours a week for 52 weeks of the year 40x52 =2080 hours a year. Divide that by annual salary of £29384 for hourly rate: 29384/2080=£14.12

@thegradmedic He is currently innocent, the GMC need to wait for conclusion of criminal investigation before they can hold a hearing.

In the same vein, are you expecting someone who has broken the law to abide by GMC?

@thegradmedic So if bail conditions say he can’t work as a doctor or if GMC say he can’t work as a doctor outcome the same - doesn’t need GMC to get involved at this point. GMC don’t investigate criminal cases, that’s what the police/court is for. Innocent until proven guilty is
