What fresh hell is this?!
A job advert for a haematology PA - with NO medical degree in a specialty with some of the sickest patients to:
🚩review unwell pts
🚩 LEAD ward rounds
🚩procedures including paracentesis, lumbar punctures & bone marrow sampling
🚩discharge patients
@HfNexttoplshf @corneliusorj89 @DrNickDalmon@medicalmodelbri@anaesthetic_spr I have covered any personal details other than my name- even though the PA posting the comments thought nothing of including my full name and GMC number, repeatedly urging people to report me.
Most nurses oppose the advanced practice role.
They understand how dangerous it can be to replace doctors with ACPs/Physios/Paramedics in hospitals and primary care.
Make nursing great again!
"three week training programme" + "150 hours supervised clinical practice" = manage patients independently + deliver "autonomous care"
Surely this is stretching the bounds of being called "advanced practice"? What do you even learn in such little time?
@ImperialNHS
Who remembers when I recently offered my services to ED during the last resident doctors’ strike?
I was absolutely slaughtered by two ED consultants on #MedTwitter for being underqualified to see those minor patients cherry-picked for me, and yet somehow this is fucking OK !! 👇🏼
In Theatre 12 this morning @maffygirl, there is an Anaesthesia Associate (non physician) undertaking a quick fire day case list with 8 cases on it. The senior ladder pulling supervising consultant has yet to leave the coffee room! This is NOT safety first!
39000 non-doctors to be trained by 2031
And Wes could only offer @BMAResidents 1000 training posts
So we will have many more unemployed doctors as they are replaced by barely trained quacks
Soon NHS will be only for those who can’t afford to pay to see a doctor
Good morning @wesstreeting
Pts at Dinnington Group Practice have raised concerns about PAs. The PAs at this practice are seeing undifferentiated Pts and discussing them at the end of the day
Pts are being gaslighted and told that PAs are ‘ fully qualified’
THIS IS NOT SAFE
Most people have no idea how bad the UK doctor training system really is.
It demands double the training time of other countries, pays doctors less at every stage, and then often keeps them “junior” even after they finish all their training.
Look at the numbers.

You no longer need a medical degree to work as a CONSULTANT PSYCHIATRIST
🏴☠️This is the flat hierarchy that some Emergency Medicine dudes advocated for.
⭕️They told ACPs (physios, dieticians, etc.) that they’re on par with senior registrars.
⭕️They inflated their egos, and now they’re questioning senior doctors’ decisions in the ED, without even knowing how to interpret ECGs, just to assert dominance.
The result: chaos will rise again in ED
@DrAnimeshSingh if you cannot/could not run the medical take overnight with the full complexity and volume of cases and decisions required or lead an inpatient 30 bed ward when consultant not there and don't have MRCP you are *not* "working at registrar level"
It is just bollocks
@ShaunLintern I'm a consultant and was in this weekend keeping patients safe while residents are on strike. Good local planning, as we had, keeps patients safe without needing to request derogations. The BMA are not responsible for local management failures. Full support to the residents.
So much smearing & belittling of consultants in the press, but this, from today’s @thetimes letters page, could not have put it more beautifully.
Pls RT if you agree.

'Are they prepared to continue to have strike action in the NHS, are they prepared to continue losing doctors abroad, or do they want to give us the four more pounds an hour?'
Dr Emma Runswick from the British Medical Association spoke to #BBCBreakfast as the 5 day resident doctors strike in England came to an end
