๐ Empowering Kenya's Youth for Governance and Accountability ๐ฐ๐ช
In a country where 75% of the population is under 35, the voices of our youth are crucial for shaping a better future. Yet, despite their numerical strength, young people in Kenya remain underrepresented in political spaces, often silenced by a culture that prioritizes age over knowledge.
At the recent Africa Youth Leadership Forum in Maseno University, one of our youth champions help in highlighting the urgent need for youth participation in governance. Key challenges such as tribalism, misinformation, and corruption hinder their involvement, while cultural norms further marginalize women and youth with disabilities.
To address these challenges, we proposed actionable solutions such as:
-Equiping the youth with the tools to report corruption and advocate for accountability.
-Ensuring that all voices, including those from marginalized groups, are heard in the electoral process.
-Providing comprehensive civic education to enhance understanding of governance structures.
-Fostering youth networks and creating platforms for engagement with policymakers.
Together, we can amplify youth voices, ensuring they play a pivotal role in shaping policies that address their needs and aspirations. Let's work towards a future where every young Kenyan is empowered to participate in government @UNDPAfrica@WorldBank@OpenSociety@NEDemocracy@fes_media@AfDB_Group@Sida@GizGmbh34812@NLinKenya

@Maskani254@kawive@nisisikenya@TIKenya@TISAKenya@Pawa254@thekhrc Strengthen independent institutions like the Auditor General and SRC with stronger enforcement powers, automatic sanctions for violations, and timely public reporting. Regular performance audits tied to consequences would ensure accountability.#CostOfJusticeKE
@Maskani254@kawive@nisisikenya@TIKenya@TISAKenya@Pawa254@thekhrc real-time public disclosure of all taxpayer-funded expenditures, benefits, and contracts via a centralized digital portal. Full publication of budgets, perks, and procurement details for all arms of government would enable citizen scrutiny and build trust.#CostOfJusticeKE
@Maskani254@kawive@nisisikenya@TIKenya@TISAKenya@thekhrc@Pawa254 Such benefits breed resentment and cynicism, making citizens view constitutional institutions as self-serving. This weakens legitimacy of the justice system and rule of law, as economic pain highlights the gap between elite comfort and public sacrifice.#CostOfJusticeKE
