The first time I watched the video of my husband’s murder was last October when I attended the world premiere of a film that was made about the trial that never followed Eric's murder at the New York Film Festival. Until then I could never bring myself to watch it.

We need to do a better job of screening cops.
We need to do a better job of training cops.
But the reality is: until there are consequences for violating that training, we won't have better outcomes.

It's been 93 days since Breonna Taylor was murdered and the only arrest made in relation to her death was the arrest of her partner, who was charged for defending himself against the intruders invading their home.
Why would anyone accept the premise that if you “don’t run away” or “don’t resist arrest” at the hands of police then nothing bad will happen to you? We just saw what happened to George Floyd. Breonna Taylor was literally asleep in her home.
So much of history has been whitewashed for the sake of making it palatable for white consumption that we are starting to perpetuate things that are not only misconceptions, but outright lies.
A lot of what you're told about protests, MLK, etc. is wrong.
A thread.
(3/3) #ICantBreathe became a chant heard in cities around the country & sadly repeated following the death of #GeorgeFloyd. See the trial that never happened against the NYPD Officer responsible for #EricGarner's death. @EricGarnerMovie available to watch in our Virtual Theater.
Yes, it’s possible to legislate justice & accountability and write budgets that actually value Black lives. If it feels unfamiliar, that’s because we’re trying to do something that’s never been done in America.
