I love Elijah McClain. Read the words he said to the people killing him. Can you imagine that much kindness in a human soul? I never could, and now it's gone.

This kōrero from Tamati Coffey (while an incredibly poor take) is also a perfect example of the complex and ongoing effects of colonisation on Māori (1/15)
@David_Cormack@ThePanelRNZ Cutting him was definitely needed, but is it possible to spare a few seconds to clearly counter his rhetoric? Something like " racist coments like that are not accepted on RNZ, and I'd like to make sure the listeners know his comments were not based on facts"
Every now and then I come back to twitter...
and see the people I follow being downright nasty for the fun of it.
Just cos your friends and doing the same shit doesn't make it right.
@atruebluescreen@NonVictus@kbarley66 This was a nice way of explaining this. How not catering for say ~5% of the male pop, is different to not considering 50% of the total pop.
Me: “How do you describe your gender?”
Female-identifying teen: “I’ve never been asked that question before. I’d say...powerful” *smiles*
This answer had been living in my head rent-free for days. Sometimes unanticipated answers are the best ones.
@IslaStewart I know my doc uses our sessions to write a bunch of notes on all the subtle behaviour stuff to keep track of what stable looks like for me. Maybe ask them why face to face sessions are needed, what exactly are they looking for / monitoring.
@doctornontrad When I made theatre in Melbourne, Australia we said "chookas", as in chicken. Apparently it means 'may you make enough money to eat chicken tonight'.
@nonarylame@xoxogossipgita Cis people: I want you to take half an hour and think about your gender. Really think about it, hard. Not because you're possibly trans (though maybe you are, idk), but because it'll lead you to better understand a part of yourself that society lets you leave unexamined
I chose not to go down the medicine route, and took up medical science instead. A routine sleep schedule is key to my health.
How many jobs are not an option just because you need to get regular sleep?
Wellp... it finally happened to me in residency. I fell asleep at the wheel and rear ended a car this morning on my way to work. No one was harmed and it was not at high speed but the fact that it happened was really jarring for me. Its been a week....😕
@sabinenamba @bethany_mae_@_SJPeace_ In the short term you can have a conversation with men about sexism and the danger in treating women like shit. In the short term you can go online and hear the perspectives of people who aren't men. There are immediate things YOU could be doing.
@bethany_mae_ @sabinenamba @_SJPeace_ Teach self-esteem in schools, but not dont fucking abuse women. You know what's terrible for self esteem? Men who actively and systematically destroy it. Jfc
Hey, I went to therapy yesterday and I learned some things.
I know not everyone can afford therapy or find good therapists, so I like to share what I learn in case it helps you.
I think everyone could use a lighthearted/happy story right now so here goes:
At the beginning of the pandemic I went through some painful personal stuff and would often go out at night for long walks because no one was around and I couldn’t sleep anyway. One night I was walking
And as kind as her offer was, it wasn't unusual.
I grew up in poverty, and holy fuck, I swear people with the least give the most.
I am without groceries, but damn, she made me feel so fucking cared about.
A feel good thread. I promise.
So I see someone living rough I give them money, because seriously, why the fuck would I not? It's a few dollars, I'm good for it.
