@NathanBurgoine Respectfully playing devil's advocate - compare this to YA. There are teens in other genres. What defines YA is that a teen is the main character. And having it labeled as a "genre" (even though it's about a type of person) helps readers identify a book they'd like to read.

@SisterQuill It's usually just a problem of bad writing. Phrases repeated too often, poor line by line description that ends up very, "he did this and then he did this and then..." Good erotic scenes can still focus on the craft of writing.
