Take home points:
✅ Prescribe IV fluid with the care you would warfarin
✅ Achieve euvolaemia, then sit on your hands
✅ If urine output or BP stays low think “Is a different approach needed here?” rather than autoreaching for more IV fluid
✅ Break your AKI ➡️ fluid reflex

Dear friends and colleagues,
It is with overwhelming sadness that we share news of the death of our colleague, mentor and friend, Rinaldo Bellomo. During recent days, both he and his family have received dedicated, expert and compassionate care from some of the finest in our ICU community. We share their pain and sense of loss.
Over several decades, Rinaldo has made a profound and enduring impact on ICU practice in Australia, New Zealand and around the world. As a passionate researcher he challenged conventions, championed evidence-based practice in the care of the critically ill and supported countless colleagues in their research careers. As a compassionate mentor, colleague and friend, he touched and enriched numerous lives, and will be greatly missed. His loss will affect our whole community and in due course there will be opportunities to come together to celebrate his life.
This will be a difficult time for many, but we know that our memories of Rinaldo’s relentless enthusiasm, warmth, optimism and boundless energy will help us all through the weeks ahead. In lieu of flowers, Rinaldo's family would welcome donations to support his research legacy at https://t.co/29kO6OeHxe
Our sincere condolences and best wishes go out to his family, friends and colleagues.

Thanks for sharing the news that my article on how to test evolutionary medicine hypotheses gets a 100% novelty score! I am in the midst of writing a much simplified version and would be glad to hear from anyone interested in this topic. @isemph

High body temperature shuts down SARS CoV2 replication. Paper: we’ve been talking about this since the pandemic. Try not to treat fevers.
Thanks to @TomNob7 for sharing.

We have released a brand new interactive module covering CVC insertion using ultrasound guidance alongside a live demonstration video. This forms the first module of a series covering vascular access - to come includes peripheral IV access, midline and PICC modules/videos. 1/2
In ICUs across the country we intubated and palliated colleagues, while protecting ourselves from them with PPE they were denied.
The corruption and wastage of this government will stay with me for a long time.

If the problem with a 5 year degree is the debt accumulated over 5 years,
Err
I dunno
Maybe try reducing the debt burden rather than the training time…?
