At our #WHA79 dinner, ministers of health and global partners discussed what is required to build the foundations for digital health and AI, what is already working, and how donors, financers, norm setting institutions, and the private sector can support governments for success.
The session highlighted country-led reforms, stronger PHC systems, integrated care, and innovative health financing approaches as critical drivers of sustainable health system transformation.

The future of health is digital and that was at the very centre of discussions during #WHA79 last week.
What dozens of ministers and experts agreed on is that, to achieve the promise of AI, we need governance to keep humans in the loop, protect vulnerable populations, and place equity at the centre.
@WHO is working to support countries in building that governance and architecture. Without trust and strong safeguards, digital health will not deliver on its promise.

Successful digital health integration starts with strong foundations. Our Director, Nidhi Bouri, saw this firsthand in Indonesia, where she learned about how mobile apps and electronic health record systems are connecting patients to care in real time.
A disease outbreak doesn't wait for a convenient moment. New research from Exemplar countries – Brazil, Kenya, South Africa, and Vietnam – identified 5 themes of early warning systems. 🔗https://t.co/2E4f73BTPR
At the Ministerial Press Briefing for #WMD2026, our Director, Strategy and New Business, @DrAdachi_, presented findings from Exemplars in Malaria SNT: Findings in Nigeria.
Nigeria was selected as one of five exemplar countries, alongside Mozambique, Burkina Faso, Tanzania, and Laos, for its progress in Subnational Tailoring.

This #WorldMalariaDay, we're spotlighting our ongoing research on malaria subnational tailoring — using local data to get the right interventions to the right places. This past week, our partners gathered in Addis Ababa to present findings and discuss impact.
“Africa cannot solve its health challenges using evidence generated elsewhere.”

Digital health is scaling rapidly. But it’s governance that determines whether it delivers real impact. New from @JLN_UHC Lessons from 🇬🇭🇮🇳🇰🇪🇳🇬🇵🇭🇧🇦on what works: Smart regulation,Strong leadership, Sustainable resourcing, System-wide coordination

Strong health systems depend on evidence that leaders can trust. We work alongside in-country experts to translate evidence into insights that make an impact. #WorldHealthDay.
At #IMNHC2026, we heard from country representatives about progress and challenges in maternal and newborn health. Thank you to all who shared insights — these conversations shape how resources like the Interactive Benchmarking Tool can support #RMNH strategies.
Using data from 11 African countries, new models reveal that family planning does more than reduce fertility;
→ it keeps girls in school,
→ enables women to work,
→ increases household income, and
→ strengthens national economies.
It also plays a critical role in unlocking the demographic dividend, where a larger working-age population drives faster economic growth.
This shift, when harnessed well, drives faster growth, stronger institutions, and greater prosperity.

The most effective tools are built alongside the people they serve. At #IMNHC2026, partners from Niger, Rwanda, & Tanzania showed how our Benchmarking Tool is driving data-driven decisions to improve #RMNH. Grateful to @WHO@UNFPA@UNICEF@theGFF for their collaboration.
Progress in maternal and newborn health depends on turning data into action, learning from what works, and scaling solutions that save lives.
It's Day 2 of #IMNHC2026, where discussions focus on tracking progress, reviewing key data, and learning from countries leading in maternal and newborn health.

"As community actors, giving is also a way of receiving. What we give to our community is love, time, and commitment.” Astou Mbengue, neighbourhood godmother, Senegal.
In Senegal, Badienou Gox (or neighbourhood godmothers) are trusted community leaders who support women and families across every stage of maternal, newborn, and child health: from pregnancy and prenatal care to safe delivery, child vaccination, nutrition, and family planning.
Astou, a neighbourhood godmother, shares how these women work alongside health workers to encourage families to seek care early and overcome sociocultural barriers that can prevent women from accessing services. They offer guidance, trust, and long-term commitment to the well-being of mothers and children.
This Women’s Month, we celebrate the dedication of Badienou Gox and the impact they make every day.
#WomensMonth
From March 23–26, we will join global partners at the #IMNHC2026 to accelerate action for maternal & newborn health.
Join us as we share evidence, strengthen accountability, & mobilize partnerships to save lives.
