What a fantastic few days. First the @congenitalhi @CHCharityUK conference where we learnt so much from the families living with #HI. Then #ESPE2024 where we met colleagues, planned new research and showcased the team’s work @JonnaMannisto @DrPamBowman1 @JJ_Hopkins_

[Sarah E. Flanagan @flanagan_se]

Our follow-up paper establishing non-coding cis-regulatory variants in HK1 cause #congenitalhyperinsulinism with variable disease severity is now available for download on Lancet preprints https://t.co/AIESBkIX36. A few spoilers in the thread below (1/4) @SSRN @HIgenes

[Diabetes UK Research @DUK_research]

#DUKPC is ending with a bang as we hear from @angusgjones, giving the RD Lawrence lecture.

The majority of #T1D is diagnosed in adults. But misdiagnosis is all too common ➡️incorrect treatment & a misunderstanding of adult onset type 1. Dr Jones wants to rewrite the story.

Had an awesome time at #SGGDExeter2024 this week. Thanks, @mnweedon, @flanagan_se, @athattersley, and team for organizing a great meeting! Greatly enjoyed seeing so many great people and learning with all of the fantastic talks!

[Jose Florez @JoseFlorezMDPhD]

As #SGGDExeter2024 comes to an end, @MassGeneralNews rising star @miriam_udler closes the meeting by sharing her views on whether partitioned polygenic scores can illuminate the heterogeneity in type 2 diabetes, inform mechanism and potentially influence diagnosis and management.

Great #SGGDExeter2024 , charming Exeter!

[Breakthrough T1D UK @BT1DUK]

“I understand how tough it can be living with type 1 and this motivates me to work towards a cure”
- Dr @rackham_chloe, a JDRF-funded researcher who lives with #Type1Diabetes.

Fabulous presentation by Prof Sarah Richardson as part of Diabetes UK’s symposium on The T1D Grand Challenge in London. Truly exciting prospects! #ExeterDiabetes @SarahIBEx @ExeterMed

[Jose Florez @JoseFlorezMDPhD]

Another fascinating talk at #SGGDExeter2024: new MGH Research Scholar @MelinaClaussnit presents her group's work correlating genetic variants & polygenic scores to molecular processes underlying metabolic disease, shedding light on mechanisms of insulin resistance @MassGenBrigham

[Segun Fatumo @SFatumo]

In my presentation today at the 9th #SGGD2024 meeting in Exeter, I demonstrate how the inclusion of African genomic resources improve the power and equitability of Generic risk score (GRS) and their underpinning Genome Wide Association Study (GWAS).

Landmark study led by @DrElisaDeFranco & @nickdlowens shows ZNF808 loss causes human pancreatic agenesis. This is the 1st congenital disease caused by loss of a primate-specific gene and highlights that conservation isn't always a useful marker of disease causality @doctorveera

[Exeter Med School @ExeterMed]

Born without a pancreas, Tania helped our team discover a new gene finding sheds light on human development and could help the search for a type 1 #diabetes cure.

The gene is essential for the human pancreas, yet not present in most other animals.
