@ucrleabeee@besavageee I agree that coaches do not pay enough attention the Black college athletes academically. in a way it puts them up for failure by putting them on a lower standard/“easier” majors to meet the gpa requirement instead of pushing the athletes academically more. @besavageee#ucr150
African American student athletes are constantly dealing with racism in college. Coaches are focused more on their betterment than their athletes education and this leads to African American student athletes to fall behind academically while playing football. @besavageee#ucr150
@ucrleabeee@besavageee Colleges and the NCAA have so much power compared to these athletes that athletes voices are silenced. These institutions know that they will always get players so they abuse their power over innocent student athletes leading to no pay @besavageee#ucr150
The NCAA deems student athletes as students first, but fails to show action to the claim. Student athletes are treated as full time employees and yet in return are unable to speak up about inequalities due to the NCAA “pass” on the 14th amendment. #ucr150@besavageee
The NCAA would not have limitation such as having to stay at a school for a whole year before transferring if they really had the best intentions for student athletes.Students who wish to transfer could be bombarded with restrictions and penalties! #ucr150@besavageee
@ichoi024@besavageee I agree that the NCAA does not have the best intentions for students due to the fact that they treat the student athletes like cash cows. They trap these students with a bunch of restrictions that hurt the students more than help them @besavageee#ucr150
@awatk011@besavageee I agree that the NCAA needs to have a better protocol for concussions due to the fact so many athletes are left with severe side effects in the future due to getting a concussion while playing sports @besavageee#ucr150
Each year there are 7.6 million sport related concussions. Many athletes simply do not know the side effects of concussions, leading them to ignore it.Ignoring it could negatively impair them cognitively, physically,or psycho socially.#ucr150@besavageee
@i_aguayo2@besavageee I agree that colleges have not been complying to the title IX rules but why are school not getting in trouble for not following the rules? It is very apparent that women teams do not get the same luxury and goods as male teams. #ucr150@besavageee
Title IX is supposed to promote gender equity and give women equal opportunities in sports. The issue is that schools are not keeping up with this rule and women teams are still being treated less than men sport teams. Why are women still being paid less? #ucr150@besavageee
@aaren017@besavageee I agree that colleges trap student athletes by making them dependent on the sport. Student athletes do not truly know the full extent of the contract at first and it leads to them being controlled by the contract instead. @besavageee#ucr150
College coaches know that student athletes depend on scholarships and sports. They take that advantage and make them sign a contract known as NLI. Many don’t understand the contract to the full extent allowing colleges to take advantage of these students #ucr150@besavageee
@el_choncho3@besavageee Hey Mario! I agree that the NCAA has become very money hungry by intentionally hurting student athletes. They know the financial situations most college athletes are in and continue to trap them in their money greedy system. #ucr150@besavageee
@ynavarro091@besavageee I agree College athletes are not compensated enough for their services! Not only do they not have time for a part time job but they also are limited to take internships that would further their future for sports. This continues the struggle for these athletes. #ucr150@besavageee
Scholarships only cover so much and with practice, games, school, and other responsibilities such as clubs on campus these college athletes are unable to find jobs to fit in their already packed schedule. How are these athletes suppose to survive out of school? #ucr150@besavageee
@ynavarro091@besavageee I agree that there is still an issue in the system that does not compensate/ protect student athletes especially when injured. Many lose their scholarship once injured and can not pay for college. This leaves the student with no other option to stay in school. #ucr150@besavageee
College athletes not only have the responsibility of being a student but also being a top shape athlete. The issue stated in lecture is that these athletes are not compensated or credited for their time and commitment they give to the school. #ucr150@besavageee
