@aashgonzalez @besavageee The lack of diversity in intercollegiate athletic coaching staff is an issue that definitely needs to be addressed. A more diverse coaching staff will bring more to the table that will further strengthen a team. #UCR50
Having a coaching staff that is diverse is equally as important as having diversity in a college campus, as it brings various perspectives that add to the coaching staff. Today, African Americans comprise of a little more than 10% of Div I coaching staff. #UCR50@besavageee
@mvazq060@besavageee Student-athletes do not receive any form of compensation for these long hours that they dedicate to their athletics on top of the hours they have to dedicate to their academics. With all this pressure, they probably deal with mental health issues that need to be addressed.
College athletes are in a precarious situation in which they have to balance their academics and athletics. The long hours of classes, studying and of practice give these athletes little free time, which may cause them to become isolated from other students. @besavageee#ucr50
The NCAA argues that student-athletes are students first, but when it all comes to it, they do not treat them as students first. The NCAA and member institutions do not prioritize the academics of student-athletes and this has many negative consequences. @besavageee#ucr150
@angrodriguez_82 I agree, the NCAA and it’s member institutions unfortunately treat student-athletes as pawns they can exploit, to maximize their profits, rather than students, and as a result, they don’t push for the student-athletes’ academic wellbeing. @besavageee#ucr150
@ynavarro091@besavageee I agree with you completely. The NCAA acts more like a business rather than an organization that helps out college athletes. The NCAA seeks profit more than anything, at the expense of college athletes.
The NCAA acts more as a business rather than an organization that sponsors college sports and helps athletes navigate being both a student and an athlete. I think the NCAA’s influence in the future may decline, as it continues to be weaken by the courts. #ucr150@besavageee
@kimberlynunez03@besavageee Student-athletes are the only student population that is restricted significantly when they attempt to transfer institutions. The NCAA and member institutions make it especially difficult for student-athletes to transfer and even have penalties if they do. #ucr150@besavageee
The restrictions that collegiate students-athletes face when they decide to transfer institutions shows the power that the NCAA and member institutions have over student-athletes. There is a significant imbalance of power between student-athletes and the NCAA. @besavageee#ucr150
@Eyang030@besavageee There needs to be clearer guidelines that schools need to follow when helping athletes who are suspected or confirmed to have had a concussion. Many athletes fear that reporting their symptoms will keep them from playing. #ucr150@besavageee
Concussions are an extremely common injury that athletes can sustain. Millions of concussion cases go unreported due to the lack of knowledge and fear of consequences by athletes. Schools need to have clearer guidelines to help recovering students. #ucr150@besavageee
@ynavarro091@besavageee It’s crazy to me that such discrimination is still allowed to run rampant in America’s colleges and universities. There is a need for greater enforcement of Title IX policies and institutions that fail to meet the criteria need to be punished accordingly. #ucr150@besavageee
https://t.co/jzlC91czyD Women under Title IX are entitled to the same rights, opportunities and resources as men, but women college sports are treated anything but. How is this blatant discrimination still allowed to run rampant in America’s colleges? #ucr150@besavageee
@TeresaOro007 @besavageee I think that incoming college athletes need be informed about the NLI that they are about to sign. It is important for them to understand that they are essentially being robbed of their autonomy when they sign the NLI. The NLI is in desperate need of reform. #ucr150@besavageee
When college athletes sign a National Letter of Intent, they are often do not understand what they are signing. Many do not understand that they are only getting one-year renewable scholarships and athletes are essentially coerced into signing the NLI. #ucr150@besavageee
@yuanfen00536757@besavageee Something that I think should at least be the minimum standard is that college athletes should be guaranteed four-year scholarships that cover the cost of attendance so that athletes don’t have to worry about lack of financial aid, so they better focus on school and their sport.
The NCAA amateur model has significant consequences for college athletes. Student-athletes are restricted in their ability to make a living while they are at school. This model can be exploitative, as it doesn’t guarantee them fully paid 4 year scholarships. #ucr150@besavageee
@duran_m22@besavageee I agree with your statement, college athletes are under enormous pressure to perform well on the field and in the classroom. Also, many athletes also go through various struggles, such as injuries, mental health, and financial issues that can overwhelm them. #ucr150@besavageee
CA Gov. Newsom signed the Fair Pay to Play Act that will allow athletes to earn money. The issue of compensation for college athletes is a complex one, with states having many different rules. Will other states follow through with CA? https://t.co/7R5sQAdz23 #ucr150@besavageee
