Mx fans even in the US are extremely vocal & have always been, to the extent that others find it anti-American. So many perceive the existence of Mx fans as a threat, because of their migration to the states. This feeds so much in to the US vs. MX rivalry. #ChicanxHistoryUCR
These past 2 wks of readings demonstrated how Chicanos and Mexican migrants stepped up to help the unwelcoming US keep moving as a country on the battle field and on the harvest field, and yet kept facing serious discrimination and prejudice. #ChicanxHistoryUCR
In Foleys first chapter, it’s so intriguing how white people feared the culture suicide of “white culture” if there was 2 languages or races living in the US, when in fact the US has never had a single individual group living here alone and even today (1/2)
@EddieComeaux@GlobalSportMtrs Insitutions will perform on social media expressing their support for black athletes and coaches, while behind the scenes they exploit & belittle them. Monitoring them as if they were a harm on campus, and expecting so little of them they don’t bother to provide academic aid.
@gracemartS22 @besavageee Agreed, leaving black athletes to struggle on their own during the year because they’ve always “expected little of them” is disappointing. For the amount of exploiting they do to these athletes, institutions owe them security and help in their studies. #ucr150@besavageee
Institutions have shown to sideline AAM players, outside of the field. Only highlighting and supporting them when they’re wearing a jersey, but ignoring their necessities in order to have a successful academic year and a career post college. #ucr150@besavageee
@suajosephine@besavageee I cannot agree with you more, belittling players allows the NCAA and institutions to walk all over them. They make too much money to not treat their players better. @besavageee#ucr150
The NCAA controlling students’ class flexibility, choices of major, coercing players to skip classes, and closing the door to educating themselves creates an exploitative environment. @besavageee#ucr150
@vtellez2022 @besavageee I agree Victoria, these institutions have to stop overbearing over athletes and their decisions. Unfortunately we don’t know if schools are right for us especially athletes, coercing them to stay, does not better the situation. @besavageee#ucr150
The NCAA making so many restrictions and penalties for 4-4 transfers shows the very little interest that they have over students academics. Above the sport and scholarships, a students academic interest and well being is much more important. @besavageee#ucr150
@itzsangela@besavageee It’s infuriating because of long term effects of head traumas, another reason it’s upsetting that schools see players are dispensable objects not humans with life goals, a concussion can be one nerve or vessel short of serious bodily injuries @besavageee#ucr150
The lack of knowledge on concussions from coaches, the first responders on the field, is highly upsetting because of the consequences of late treatment can have on an injured player https://t.co/DV2tRVfts1 @besavageee#ucr150
@AvelarBritney02@besavageee I was also disturbed by this, they are so easy to point fingers for womens rightfully demanding what’s theirs, no where did title ix ask for the budget cuts of male sports @besavageee#ucr150
The fact that the reading highlights that institutions are so easy to blame title ix compliance for erasing mens spots in teams, instead of creating more opportunities for all is disgusting and shows the real harming factor in college athletics #ucr150@besavageee
@TeresaOro007 @besavageee I believe incoming student athletes need a seminar on the NLI, it’s a life changing contract, and many sign in the moment without realizing if the entire school or department is a fit for them. The NLI plays a huge role in affecting athletes academics #ucr150@besavageee
Staurowsky points out how binding the NLI is, because coaches may move and the coach who wanted you and the new coach in place might not see eye to eye, and athletes spot on the field may be truly jeopardized. Students are moved like chess pieces #ucr150@besavageee
@i_aguayo2@besavageee I agree, if scholarships are not allowed to surpass cost of attendance & sports and school don’t allow time for student athletes to work, how are many of them getting by especially when there are so many side expenses in college #ucr150@besavageee
it is unbelievable that the NCAA is allowed to have such a monopolistic power over individuals & their futures even when student athletes have asked for this to change #ucr150@besavageee https://t.co/wJxmNavdcz
@ccass015@besavageee I couldn’t agree more, it all starts with scouting and glorifying the title of student athletes for a certain institution while hiding how easy a player will be replaced and depreciated when they slightly underperform @besavageee#ucr150
