#FFTP is a campaign set up by community activists with the support of @NEF, to champion building publicly owned keyworker & #councilhousing in #Southend.
For Fucks Sake! We keep producing this over processed, climate ignorant, low density, design deficient, noddy box shit year after year, and call it housing supply.
It’s an increasingly popular scheme, with shared ownership properties selling faster than other houses, according to data from Rightmove.
But with its unresolved flaws, is it fit for purpose? Read more here 👇

This isn’t the end of the fight for new council housing in Southend though. It’s not acceptable for new homes to be build 9-12x the wages of keyworkers in our new city. It’s not acceptable to achieve pathetically minuscule new housing targets @SouthendBC

This is extremely disappointing from @SouthendBC
With so many families on the waiting list, & an apparent inability to deliver adequate numbers of new social rent/council housing it is vital for Southend that the council stands up to the @HomesEngland.

This is a very sad conclusion to our fight for council/social rent homes at Fossetts Farm, a former NHS, still publicly owned site in Southend. It had the potential of over 400 genuinely affordable homes, but there was major blockages from @HomesEngland & no will from @SouthendBC
People of #Southend. Online public meeting on Monday night regarding the proposals for housing at the former NHS site at Fossetts Way. Have your say.
No booking required - just log in (on a browser or the Zoom app) anytime after 6.45pm for a 7pm start at https://t.co/wH5HaNix96
Really good to see Basildon building large scale housing developments that 50/50split key-worker homes with new council housing. This is exactly the type of development that is needed in #Southend to help those most at need. #ukhousing@NEF

What happened to the administration supporting the building of genuinely affordable housing? What happened to the @SouthendLabour manifesto commitment to support @FFTP10 aims of building social rent homes. Doesn’t #Southend has a waiting list of 1500 families?
This is exactly what @SouthendBC should be doing on the Fossetts site in #Southend@CllrIanGilbert not more shared ownership, “affordable”rent that is 80% of market rent, and more executive homes.

Interesting conversation on @BBCPoliticsLDN today regarding Councils that aren’t building enough social housing, contributing to high rents & overcrowding. Exasperation that councils aren’t using the public works loans to fund it.
Sound familiar in #Southend? @CllrIanGilbert
@PhilipMillerMBE @cllrtonycox You can see a report on the study here.

Of course if the Cllr is concerned about affordability of rental prices for residents in Southend, the best way to help would be to get behind a mass building project of social rent homes on the Fossetts Way site.
@PhilipMillerMBE @cllrtonycox Landlord licensing schemes have been rolled out across the country by local authorities led by both the Tories and Labour. Havering for example, a LA controlled by Tories has had it’s own study on its own licensing scheme which found no evidence in increases of rent.
Are you a key worker struggling in private rented accommodation in Southend? @FFTP10 want to hear from keyworkers, people on the housing list, in temporary accommodation or who are homelesss. Please share your story. Contact via twitter their Facebook page Fossetts for the People
Here is a thread on continuing issues with the supply of truly #affordablehousing (social rent/council homes) in #Southend and the how national policy of investing in “home ownership” is damaging to residents on low incomes, or the approx 1500 on the waiting list for housing.
