Bandits on six motorcycles tried to attack Abara village in Sabon-Birni, Sokoto State, late Saturday night, January 11, 2026. They left their bikes and crossed on foot but were met by Nigerian soldiers who had prior intelligence. Together with local vigilantes, the troops forced the bandits to flee into nearby farms.

As the bandits tried to reach their motorcycles, they ran into a Nigerien military patrol guarding the bikes. The Nigerien soldiers opened fire, killing all the bandits.

One bandit survived and was caught the next morning in Magajin Dawaki village after trying to hide by changing clothes. He was arrested and handed over to security forces.
