On Monday I exited my #phd viva with only typos (typos! *shakes fist*) to correct. 'Relief' doesn't cover it!
HUGE thanks to examiners @IanRHartley + @jon_seabirds, supervisor @SamCPatrick and friends and family for everything in the last 4 1/2 years.

Last talk of #ASABSpring2024 by @FR_McCully on coordinated parental care, where costs of parental care are more evenly distributed. She looked at how black-legged kittwakes coordinated care in the short- and long-term at “The Arctic’s creepiest soviet ghost town.”
Thanks so much to @r_heisman from @hakaimagazine for featuring our work on personality, breeding success and re-pairing in kittiwakes in this recent article!

Does personality matter for breeding Kittiwakes? My first news article with @oxsci reporting on some fascinating research by @FR_McCully & @SEG_UL is out now: https://t.co/nvEUxAgaKY
Once again, a great time was had writing for the @ConversationUK this time on our kittiwake personality and re-pairing paper!

Excited to see our new paper, led by myself and @luciamartinaml, published in @PNASNews! We look at movement trajectories of wandering #albatross and find they orient towards to v low frequency 'infrasound' 1/n
It took 6yrs but out today @PNAS 1st evidence infrasound is a reliable cue for movment decisions https://t.co/r6qTdb9PwK Read our persepctive on how & why here https://t.co/tGjxgturt3 & how infrasound might be heared here https://t.co/YvcQqpOQvM. Huge thanks to @HFSP for funding
@FreddieMck121 @Env_Sci 4/4 Similar pairs may find it easier to cooperate during #parentalcare.
But #matechoice is complicated and is certainly influenced by more than just #personality…
Not all that different from humans, in my opinion!

1/4 I am not done yet but…I’m prepared to call it…
🚨My FAVOURITE #PhD chapter is out NOW in Ethology! 🚨
Seabird pairs with similar personalities ➡️ are better parents ➡️ decreasing their re-pairing risk

@FreddieMck121 3/4 Kittiwakes mated according to personality at one colony but not the other 🤔
In both colonies, similar partners had better breeding success. Chick survival made re-pairing less likely ➡️
An INDIRECT effect of personality on re-pairing in a long-lived, monogamous bird!
Here's @FreddieMck121 talking about individual plasticity in kittiwakes- his contribution to the Symposium on 'Habitat as an extended phenotype' at #Behaviour2023!
