Florida has over 100,000 Haitian TPS holders who contribute $2.6 BILLION to Florida’s economy and over $300 million in taxes to the Federal government by working in areas where there are labor shortages like healthcare and elder care.

Besides their economic contributions, they are our friends, community leaders, teachers and more.

I am heartbroken and infuriated by the Supreme Court’s despicable decision on TPS for Haitians and Syrians. I plan to introduce a bill to reverse this ruling.

This callous ruling will have devastating implications for 1.3 million TPS recipients who have been targeted by Trump despite abiding by the law and contributing to Florida’s economy. The Court selectively ignored Trump’s open racism against Haitians to imply that race was not a factor in this case. We all know better.

Hundreds of thousands of families who followed the law, passed multiple criminal background checks, earned work permits, and paid taxes will be torn apart, thrown in ICE jails, or sent back to a nation overrun by criminal gangs who murder and kidnap at will. Haitian-American children—U.S. citizens—will be orphaned, detained in horrific conditions, or deported alongside their parents to imminent danger. Americans will pay even higher prices for groceries, healthcare, housing, and childcare.

I have proudly led the fight to protect Venezuelan, Haitian, and Cuban immigrant communities from Trump’s collective punishment. I led nearly 200 Congressional Democrats in an amicus brief defending TPS in this Supreme Court case, and I fought alongside @RepPressley to successfully force a House vote on legislation extending TPS for Haiti.

This fight is not over. The mission to protect our law-abiding neighbors from ICE brutality and provide a lawful pathway to permanent status has never been more urgent, and I will continue working tirelessly to achieve those goals.

The @ZohranKMamdani candidates in NY just won their primaries against solid incumbents Goldman and Espaillat.

Here’s why: this country has taken such an extreme turn to the right—filled with lawlessness and violence against Americans and immigrants—that people feel Democrats aren't being loud or strong enough against injustice.
Now, we’re seeing an extreme turn to the left, and I’m not surprised one bit.

When voters watch the right’s extreme stance on immigration and a war that continues to kill innocent people abroad, voters don't want quiet, defensive centrism from Democrats, they are demanding a fierce and loud response. They are demanding a government that works and understands their struggles.

As a former member, I talk to a lot of people who, today, feel left out by both parties. With the growing polarization, I’m afraid many people will disengage and that is a real threat to our democracy.
