Lovely video showing (probably) our most diverse and beautiful habitat #ScotlandsRainforest, home to myriad lichens, mosses and liverworts. And, at times, @rebecca_yahr
I'm a woodland ecologist, so you might expect I'd be all for tree planting right? Well, sometimes... but not always, and we certainly can't plant our way out of climate change.
Great afternoon out with @HighlandNewt looking for white-faced darter larvae for @AnnaPMuir. We found lots but were so focused on our work that I forgot to photograph any, so here's a newly emerged Northern emerald instead!
@ScienceCeilidh This is some fantastic advice! There is lots of science misinformation out there, accidental or malevolent. I also tend to use NHS for info, and GOV for restriction advice.
1 in 3 Highlanders experience #MentalIllness (according to @BwoodHighland). Our rurality can be lonely. But there are things we can all do to improve mood. Below are some of mine!
Feel free to share your #MentalHealthTips and #walk pics!
@HI_Voices@ScienceCeilidh I am based on the Black Isle! I am pretty inexperienced with Twitter, but would definitely like to get involved with HI_voices once I have got the hang of Twitter a bit better! Thank you!
As well as being a great way to illustrate science concepts, crafting has been suggested to have positive outcomes on our #MentalWellbeing. Having taken up embroidery, I tend to agree! Here is a photo of my latest project. Do you think crafting improves our mental wellbeing?
This wall caused me to stop, rub my thighs and audibly "phwooaaar" on my walk to the shop today. What a sexy fern - maidenhair spleenwort! So extravagant. So delicate. A gorgeous addition to any moist wall, with an absolutely *belting* name to boot 😍💚
@gow_derek Just been writing about the role of the fence in rewilding... "Good fences [may] make good neightbours" but fencing nature in or fencing out? Keeping people separate from the wild or the wild separate from people? Isn't rewilding about improving connectivity, social and natural?
Vital point. I spend a lot of time trying to get people not to plant trees (in the wrong places, with the wrong ground prep), and even more pointing out that trees are quite good at getting themselves planted by birds, wind etc. @woodywildlife @collbradan @arina_WTS @CheltTussock
Another reason #ImACeleb is increasingly irrelevant. Aside from releasing non-native species (& questionable ethics), isn't it time we stop perpetuating hysterical fear of wildlife? Being surrounded by insects/snakes/rats shouldn't be horror-inducing?! https://t.co/xpzRBiXvHk
@carcairnbaan @FScottica@Wayfaringhind @EmmaGoodyer @SaraJanePonting@Liam_M_Crowley @WildGingerRuns Cheers @carcairnbaan. Coming from you that's quite a compliment! Sadly I completed failed to get a photo of an incredibly cute neonate lizard, although @FScottica might be able to supply one that her dad took.
