It feels very bizarre to not be home in Nashville on this day, so I took the subway over to the Empire State Building and watched as it lit the sky in pink sparkles at 9:25 in her honor. You can hear in my video the cheers and clapping celebrating Dolly coming from the streets.
She WAS America, effortlessly: the music, the family, the personality, the style, the friendliness, and the inventiveness. Don't let our horrible political system and all the corruption around us make us forget that she was more AMERICAN than any of the ghouls currently in power.
Genuinely do think Dolly deserves a national holiday. You celebrate by buying kids books and being nice to each other. Coincides with the beginning of the school year. I’m emotional over her passing, but I’ll mean it a year from now just the same.
I'm sorry we never got a chance to meet, but getting this note from Dolly really had a an impact on me. She definitely didn't have to take the time to do it. Even for a kid who mostly listened to rap music, she was an icon. A superstar in every sense. Rest easy Dolly. And thank you for the kind words.
