It is current, accessible to students (news articles are rewritten at students' reading levels), and provides students with tools (highlighters, annotation tools, quizzes, writing prompts) to strengthen/test their comprehension of current informational texts

I allow students to choose their own texts to practice reading skills as often as possible. Sites such as Epic! And Newsela help students to more easily find texts that they will enjoy and be able to critically engage with online. #USDEDUC562 @S_Belzunce @ZQasim7 @OrnelasLori

Reading is reading regardless of where or how we read. Today's world is different than it was twenty years ago. In order to motivate our students to read today, we must adapt. Digital texts are relevant and engaging. They are a great way to motivate students today!
