@DKagiaros@Scott_Wortley The gavel pest was even worse in Scotland fifteen years ago. The Scotcourts website had them! They were removed after I explained the unsuitability of using an auctioneers' tool.
@SententiaePauli What is wrong with Hamesucken? It has continued to be charged off and on over the years. I would like to see the crimen privati carceris one day. Last sighted in the early eighteenth century!
@MacqueenHector@JSAinslie You would enjoy Robert Marshall, The Haunted Major (1902): Edwardian Scots golfing humour at the expense of the main character, Major Gore. Cleeks etc are not understood by him at first. Reprinted by Canongate with an Introduction by John Updike (v cheap digital version).
@Scott_Wortley Blackie is rare. Once when a lecturer at Edinburgh University I opened a letter to another Blackie who had been a professor in the Divinity Faculty who I knew had recently died. The letter began, "I am interested in applying for the chair you have just vacated". I did reply.
@JillJRobbie @EdinLawSeminars They do not tweet. I see them virtually at an online legal German class and told them and I have now sent sent it to them. Ken Reid and I bought our first ever machines. Together in 1983. They were very primitive and that steep learning curve has had a 40 year legacy!π
@AileenMcHarg Some of this happened every year in the old Helensburgh skating pond into the 1960s (pre serious climate change). I last used my skates 10 years ago on the Lake of Menteith! The police once chased me off a perfectly safe 9-inch deep artificial lochan on Arthur's Seat, Edinburgh.
@SartorialOrator Just before starting my LLB, as a graduate, and not sure it was going be right for me, I bought a copy of Gloag and Henderson. I got on a train and started reading. Over an hour later I was so hooked by law I almost failed to get off.
@APeterson1990 This had a much earlier history in German "ius commune" texts. For example, Benedikt Carpzov (Saxony c17) when referring to a German court decision puts that in black letter print, while the rest of his text (in Latin) is not. I have just been reading him!
@maryfordneal Absolutely. Whether to have DNACPR or is an entirely personal matter. I am only 2 years younger than the ageist date suggested. Medicine is the only area of activity grounded on science where broad brush thinking seems to be common.
