Rain? I wish. Central Illinois. God forbid there’s residue in your fields. If a high speed disk is the only way to get across your acres, farm less. Do better.
Yesterday was a beautiful day at the Monmouth Research Center. We collected cover crop biomass for 2 @ILSoybean funded projects. Today the crew collects biomass at the Orr Research Center. @PrezaFontes
New @USDA Plant Hardiness Zone Map released. Zones 6-7 have migrated northward substantially since the last map in 2012, and the first appearance of zone 7b in the state. #ilwx

1/ Whenever there is a wide range of #weather conditions across time and space, as there has been this year, there is a great deal of interest in which weather variables were the most important in determining #soybean#yields.

Great day! Planting cover crops at the Dudley Smith Farm wth Fred and his cows! We truly appreciate the hard work Curtin's put into getting the corn harvested and cc drilled in September! Cereal rye, red clover and a vetch+radish mix. @PrezaFontes@MN_DrainDrop@IllinoisNrec
Our West Point office came across this photo from 1960. The caption says, "... (farmer) drills in a cover crop of rye and vetch in late August each year. Drill was built in farm shop. This cropping system has been used for the past 7 years. Yields have increased each year.” #TBT
Tracked down radar from last weeks storm. Had hail damage to the cereal rye and autosamplers flipped over. Nothing permanently broken. @IL_DrainDrop @PrezaFontes@SpanishWoodBio@laoliveira21
Monitoring effect of cover crops on nitrate losses through tile drainage. Next up, tracking cover crop decomposition and nutient availability. @IL_DrainDrop @PrezaFontes@SpanishWoodBio@laoliveira21
@dollyfarms2@skporter We are researching exactly that at the UI Dudley Smith Farm field scale drainage plots. 2022 trts were: SB, SB w/cover, wheat Dbl crop SB. This year in corn rotation. @PrezaFontes @IL_DrainDrop @laoliveira21
Time never seems to slow down, and few understand the importance of time more than the farmer. But in the hustle of perfect timing, from planting to harvest and back again, do we miss the little moments?

Soils across Kansas are still mostly above 50 degrees F at the 4-inch depth. It is best to delay applications of anhydrous ammonia until soil temps drop below 50F. Dry soils continue to be a concern when considering the loss potential. @SoilFertilityKS

@JenSchweigert I hear ya. It's tough when growing kids need new boots often. Our fave has also been Ariat but recently got son some Justin's. Didn't find a decent alternative. He's 13 y/o and wearing a 12. Hate to skimp on them when he works on farm and wears them every day.
Just out here trying to give Gleaners a run for their money and not be the only harvester on the market that is also seeding cover crop. Well we are purposely seeding they are still in design phase rumor has it when they perfect theirs they are going paint it! #johndeere#iowa
