@EricRSammons There was a devout lady who wrote a letter to the Pittsburgh Catholic decades ago when the gameshow “Who wants to be a millionaire?” was popular, she calculated that with her daily Rosary she had prayed the Hail Mary over a million times in her life, much more valuable to her.
@Michael_J_Matt The tradition is that the veil of Our Lady at Chartres Cathedral is the veil which Our Blessed Mother wore when giving birth to Our Lord. It is then the shrine of the first Chapel Veil.
Saying of St. Matthias the Apostle:
"If the neighbor of an elect person sins, the elect person sins. For if he had led himself as the word dictates, the neighbor would have been in awe of his life so that he did not sin." — from Stromata book 7 of St. Clement of Alexandria.
@ChadTheBad There is an old saying from the 70’s: “He who presides decides.”
Often priests who wear black for funerals will aim to do so consistently. Even in the movies people wear black for funerals. I have not found people complaining about it. It was even specifically requested one time.
@Maristlizard@Joeinblack@Fr_Lovell@FrDylanSchrader Anointing can be received again, but typically only when there is some further worsening of her condition or closeness to death. She can receive Holy Communion even when not lucid based on her past profession of Faith in the Eucharist and the faith of the Church which supplies.
@Maristlizard@Joeinblack@Fr_Lovell@FrDylanSchrader I have ministered to many dementia patents over the course of 8 years as a nursing home chaplain:
1. While she is lucid, seek to get her to Confession.
2. She can receive Anointing on account of dementia and old age. Simply call the local priest where she resides.
@ChadTheBad Black remains an option for funeral Masses. It is not due to any judgment on the fate of the soul. It is an expression of condolences. As St. Paul says, “Weep with those who weep” (Romans 12:15).
@Goon24439783976@chunguskitten The purpose of the missionary is to proclaim the Truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It would antithetical to their purpose to construct a lie for that purpose. Also, it would be a very precarious strategy. They would quickly lose credibility if it were detected.
@Goon24439783976@chunguskitten Is that the lie they tell you? Why would 17th Century Jesuits tell of Nestorian missionaries? You are indeed gullible. I thought the Chinese knew better than to trust communist propaganda.
@WestConfucian@chunguskitten A priest friend of mine gave it to me as he made the copy when he visited and saw it himself. He showed the copy to experts at the University of Pittsburgh and they identified it as authentic ancient Chinese writing.
