#COVID variant BA.2.86 made headlines for its high # of mutations. Was this cause for concern?

As we watched the spread of the variant, our Lineage Portraits tool (powered by #PyR0) has helped highlight that # of mutations in a variant does not nec. correspond with its impact.

Recent research on this variant has supported this hypothesis, though the ultimate trajectory of the variant remains to be seen.
