A UK family where both parents work full-time, pay full council tax, and earn enough to be 'doing alright' on paper, can't afford to take their kids to the Tower of London on a Saturday in 2026.

Two adult tickets and two child tickets at standard price comes to roughly £100. Add £40-£80 in train fares and £50-£70 for lunch — that's around £200 for a single Saturday at one tourist attraction in their own capital city.

A family on full Universal Credit, living in subsidised housing, paying no council tax, can take the same four people to the same Tower for £1 a ticket — £4 total — under the 'inclusive access' schemes most major UK attractions now run.

The working family pays the full £200 day out AND covers — through their taxes — the £196 discount the benefits family gets on the same trip.

Whatever the original intention of those schemes, this is the structure most UK working families are now living inside. Pay the full bill, then watch the people next door enjoy the day out you can't take your own kids to.

@thehonestletter I completely agree. Furthermore, consider the businesses that accept only cash; in a few years, you may observe them driving SUVs and have large homes, not to mention other investments.
The system needs to be completely overhauled (needs to be washed with thick bleach!!).

btw, in the case of Lahore girl, while all “relevant” organizations completely silent, a woman’s (Maryam Nawaz’s office) government in Punjab is doing it’s level best to save those who raped this young girl in Lahore. The accused persons are already free as bail is granted to them after Punjab government had no objection on it. Only because the rapist was coming from a well connected family. In my opinion, this was a much bigger case than Noor Muqadam’s. 🙏Unfortunately, the victim girl in this case came from a poor family. So after a few days, everyone will be completely silent. I am sorry if you feel offended because any of my remarks. I appreciate that at a time when “all others” are silent, you raised voice for the poor girl.
