Young people have spoken: tackling child poverty should be @scotgov's top priority in its first 100 days ⏰
Our polling @YoungScot found that tackling child poverty was the highest-ranked issue, with 66% of 2,600 young people across Scotland identifying it as a priority.
👇
The headline from today's statistics is that one in five children remain locked in poverty. We simply must do more to give every child the best start in life.

It was an evening celebrating unity, kindness, & the spirit of giving💛
Thank you to our incredible team in Scotland for marking this moment ✨
We welcome this bold action by the Chancellor to scrap the two-child limit. By the end of this Parliament, 450,000 children across the country will have been lifted out of poverty. Scrapping this unjust policy is the single most powerful step to reduce child poverty in a generation.
Every child deserves a childhood free of poverty. For too long, children have been penalised by this pernicious policy, through no fault of their own.
This announcement sends a clear signal that all our children's lives are valued regardless of the circumstances of their birth and that the UK Government is committed to giving every child the best start in life. This is a moment of hope for hard up families.
We look forward to working with the UK Government to build on this announcement and the forthcoming child poverty strategy to tackle systemic issues that hold too many families back.
Delighted @ScotGovFM John Swinney stopped by to support our “No Limits to Childhood” project.
There should be no limits to childhoods - that’s why we must eradicate child poverty. #SNP25
Excited to kick off the Changing the Story conference this morning!
We’ll hear from some fantastic speakers about why we need to tell a new story about poverty in Scotland, what that story means, and how we can work together for a brighter future.
"Decision makers must take urgent and bold action to reduce poverty rates for Scotland’s tiniest citizens, so they can enjoy the healthy, happy and thriving childhoods they deserve. There must be no limits to childhood, or to what a child can achieve."
Every parent wants to give their baby the best start in life possible. But, heartbreakingly, over one in three families with a baby under one are living in poverty.
📣 We’re calling for the next Scottish Government to do #BetterforBabies
💔 1 in 4 children in Scotland are growing up in food insecure households.
This needs to change. Hunger is robbing children of their childhoods.
Everyone in Scotland should be able to afford the essentials 👇

This is a welcome commitment from the Scottish Government that will improve the childhoods of children with more siblings in Scotland whose families are affected by the cruel two-child limit.
Our statement on the escalation of hostilities across the Middle East:
We are deeply concerned by recent developments and Israeli and Iranian air strikes with reports emerging that children have already been killed, adding to an already fragile and volatile regional context.
While the full implications of this escalation remain to be seen, the risk of a broader regional confrontation is real and deeply worrying. Across multiple countries, children are living amid repeated cycles of violence, fear, and displacement — with long-term consequences for their safety, wellbeing, and future.
The use of explosive weapons in populated areas risks severe harm to civilians, especially children, and should be avoided at all costs. As well as children being killed, losing loved ones and homes, children are being terrified by seeing missiles fired across the skies, hearing air raids, and told to stay away from windows and inside. Save the Children calls on all parties to uphold international humanitarian law and prioritise the protection of civilian life.
Children always bear the brunt of any violence, children are the first and most impacted by any conflict. Any war is a war on children.
"Children across Scotland are currently bearing the brunt of a social security system that isn’t working, but politicians have the power to change this."

This will transform the lives of families and we welcome the UK Government's announcement.
For the children in poverty in England who are now eligible, this will mean the difference between hunger and a hot, nutritious meal letting them focus on learning. It also takes the pressure off household budgets.
This is an excellent first step by Keir Starmer in his moral mission to drive down child poverty, and we hope he will continue to show bold commitment to boosting family incomes in the autumn's Child Poverty Strategy.
A record 4.5 million children in the UK are growing up in poverty. Every day that number rises. 📈
We're making sure MPs hear children, parents and support workers loud and clear: there should be No Limits to Childhood.
The last of our Briefing Series looks at what change families want in their local community and how the local and regional economy can be brought more closely together with anti-poverty efforts at the regional level in England.

Any change for children should start with scrapping the two-child limit to Universal Credit to help families on the lowest incomes.
Keir Starmer, it's time to listen and act. Because a country that forgets its poorest children is nothing to be proud of.
