@ManikkageYasuni Does this matter? The 3% quota was recommended in a government circular in 1988. Over 35 years later, not even 1% of roles are filled by people with disabilities. It would be better to create pathways to reach 3%.
No link provided to UNFPA study - wondering whether this is unfortunate phrasing, lazy study design or bad data collection (or whether we actually live in hell but don’t know it 😱)

Ta-Nehisi Coates:
“People are asking themselves why can’t the Democratic Party defend this assault on democracy . . . and I would submit to you that if you can’t draw the line at genocide, you probably can’t draw the line at democracy.”

Early intervention is great but waiting for the details 🙏🏽 Hoping it’s not just more buildings to stand empty due to under investment in therapists with rigorous clinical experience or populated by pediatricians and psychiatrists who spend a few minutes with a child and call it a personalized intervention. Autism is a lifelong condition and requires thoughtful investment in assistance for the entire duration of life, as well as support for the often overwhelming challenges faced by caregivers.
Agree with that! The F words too seemed uncharacteristic of a woman of that era - felt placed just for “shock factor”. Unnecessary, for sure. There was plenty for the storyline without these anachronistic/unlikely distractions. Rani is not the great film it could have been given the subject matter.
Yes… but sounds like the same hospital based model that only addresses early intervention and provides therapy to a few mild cases that may benefit from speech therapy.
Parents want to know what else and what is next! What about adolescents and adults with special needs?
Autism is a LIFELONG condition. Provisions need to be made for caring for the entire life.
@CjSarva@ManikkageYasuni Why is it diluting the core of the story? She was a fearless woman who fought for justice for her son and for the children of less well connected mothers. Does it matter who she was intimate with and what she drank at night? She was a real person, not a Goddess.
Didn’t know Manorani, but something a cousin said about women of that era did come to mind “our mothers were highly accomplished women who were selfless about helping others in our community, but they also struggled with the narrow confines and expectations of Colombo…., especially for smart outspoken women.”
Does Vijaya Kumaranatunge need a whitewash and Caucasian ideal nose for us to remember the tragedy of his murder now? The nation mourned him just fine the way he actually looked, in 1988, didn’t we?
Returned home to Sei Lanka to serve the country that made me. And now I am “The American Girl”… Oh the irony!

“On social-media dating forums, “golden retriever energy” seems to refer to friendly, low-maintenance men who, while they’ll happily go along with your plans, perhaps suffer from having no plans of their own. “
@nytimes 😂 Goldens=not this. Perfect capture of dating forum lies❤️
@sanjiva 🤔 Are you saying this is a good thing? What’s in the indirect costs? The electrophysiology rig in lab was so specialized it cost $500,000. There were just five of them in the world. Someone had to pay for those “facilities” that push frontiers, right?
