For a Filmy #FernFriday try tonight's BBC Gardeners' World (9:30pm BBC Two). Nick Bailey visits the Princess of Wales Conservatory @kewgardens where he celebrates their vast collection of #ferns. Also help with going #PeatFree
Great day at Southport Fernery @FernBPS with Alison Evans and our 3rd years. Todays session was all about Plants, Heath and Green spaces. @the_bp_botanist looks super happy with his Monstera present. @BiologyEHU #plantawarness
Nice to meet friends from 'across the pond' this evening, with Julian Reed giving a great lecture on Athyrium cultivars, linking up @FernBPS and the Hardy Fern Foundation. #Athyrium#Ferns
It's #FernFriday which is like #wildflowerhour but better 😉 Two common wood ferns, Dryopteris dilata and D. filix-mas among autumn leaf litter in Sefton Meadows @FernBPS
For #fernfriday as I walked home in the High Weald this week: Hard-fern Struthiopteris spicant and Polypody Polypodium vulgare in a lane edge looking just fine. @FernBPS
16/10/20 Lancs - Not been on #twitter much the last week or so due to moving house, plus we have no internet or decent mobile reception at the new pad. We do however have lots more wildlife - here’s some #lichens and Polypody #ferns in our wall #fernfriday
@FernBPS@BSBIbotany Recording plants in grounds of a garden centre here in Northants in the rain i crawled under a load of benches to find an alien fern species naturalised amongst lots of Harts tongue at base of outside of greenhouse wall. Im not sure of the species.
@AnarchyInTheWC Another method is physically spraying them off using just water from a hosepipe attachment or shower head at a moderately strong pressure to blast them off. All this methods need to be repeated often to reduce the aphid population.
@AnarchyInTheWC Hello! Good shots of your aphid population. Yes soapy water sprayed on works but can damage thinner fronds. A product called SB invigorator works well too.
Great to see so much media coverage in past 24 hours about one tiny rare fern who travelled from tropical cloud-forest to Killarney, was found by @NimbosaEcology, IDd by Fred Rumsey @NHM_Botany, pub'd in #BritishandIrishBotany.
