Call to end atrocities against Rohingya

The Myanmar Ethnic Rohingya Human Rights Organisation in Malaysia has issued an urgent appeal to Malaysian leaders, Asean governments and the United Nations (UN) to take coordinated action to end ongoing atrocities against Rohingya communities in Myanmar and address the continued detention of refugees trapped in stateless conditions.
Its president Zafar Ahmad Abdul Ghani called on them to prioritise urgent humanitarian intervention.
The organisation said thousands of Rohingya who fled violence remain detained or stranded due to statelessness, which prevents deportation but has led to indefinite confinement.
It urged immediate legal and humanitarian action, including access to healthcare, counselling and psychosocial support.
The organisation also called for the strengthening of Malaysia's Refugee Registration Document (MRRD) initiat-ive, saying it could improve refugee doc-umentation, facilitate detainee release and expand access to essential services for survivors in Malaysia
It highlighted ongoing persecution in Myanmar, with repeated waves of viol-ence in 2012, 2016, 2017 and 2024, adding that many Rohingya remain in internally displaced persons camps in Rakhine State, which it described as long-term confinement sites.
It added that Rohingya fleeing to Bangladesh and neighbouring countries continue to face overcrowded camps, limited basic needs and insecurity, for-cing some into dangerous secondary migration routes.
"The tragedy is ongoing. Many have died in conflict zones, refugee camps, at sea or at the hands of traffickers. Where else can they seek safety?"
It urged Asean, the UN and Bangladesh to intensify efforts to dismantle trafficking syndicates and strengthen regional pro-tection systems.
Meanwhile, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail clarified that the MRRD programme does not grant permanent residency, with outcomes limited to repatriation, third-country resettlement or deportation.

Myanmar Ethnic Rohingya Human Rights Organization in Malaysia (MERHROM) calls upon each and everyone to stand in Solidarity with end discrimination, xenophobia, Islamophobia, Fake News, and Hate Speech. We suffer in silence around the globe regardless of race, religion, and their colours. We thank you deeply for your continued commitment to being the voice of the voiceless.
With the advancement of social media, hate speech spread massively without boundaries, without thinking of the dangerous impact on the victims and their families and without thinking the long-lasting trauma victims had to suffer without protection and justice. Most of the time, the perpetrators of hate speech go scot-free without accountability, leaving behind victims without support, protection, and justice.
Hate speech is a crime as it leads to violence and hate crime. Hate speech can kill people. Hate speech and hate crime is equal to crime against humanity. Therefore, it is crucial to combat such crimes for our future generation. We welcome the call made by the combat hate speech. I would like to emphasize that we must empower babies even before they are born to this world. As babies learn to recognize words in the wombs, it is very crucial to reflect on what we have done wrong in the past, and this is the time to correct it for our future generation.
Recognizing the main source of the hate speech is social media platforms and mass media among others, we really hope they make fair assessments on the impact of their content not only to the victims but also to the society and the state before publishing the contents.
We still observed that some media narratives are promoting hate speech and xenophobia against refugees and migrants. This is very dangerous as it leads to violence and hate crime against the affected communities. I really hope the mass media will be more cautious of the impact of their articles on vulnerable communities like refugees and migrants.
Following hate speech and xenophobia, many refugees who fled war and genocide faced harassment, violence, and hate crime. Some refugees were evicted from their houses together with their family members. Recognizing hate speech towards refugees and migrants has been increasing in many countries in different regions.
MERHROM urges the United Nations, and the United Nations Security Council and the United Nations Human Rights Council and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the European Union (EU),and ASEAN to advocate more on combating hate speech with its member states, media, social media platforms, CSOs, FBOs, CBOs and the global community.
Let's work together to advocate for justice, peace, freedom, and fight xenophobia, fake news, and hate speech towards refugees and migrant workers to protect the safety of the vulnerable community across the region and globally
We want to remind everyone that we, too, are human just like you. We, too , have the right to protect our dignity, feelings, and safety. #HRDs @ZAFARAHMADABDU2 #UNSC #antonioguterres #UN_HRC #volker_turk #UN #UNHumanRights #OHCHR #UNHCR #UNHCRGeneva #OIC_OCI #EuropeanUnion #ASEAN #aseanmy #SouthAsia #CivilSocietyOrganizations

High Excellency, @vonderleyen and the H.E @EP_President and the @EUCouncil, and the @Europarl_EN , and the French government and the President of the French H.E. @EmmanuelMacron, and the United Kingdom H.E. @Keir_Starmer , and the ASEAN Chairmanship H.E. @bongbongmarcos and the Asean-EU and the ASEAN and the @UN and the UN Security Council and the United Nations Human Council @UN_HRC, and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation @OIC_OCI, and the @UNHumanRights,
For the longest decades Rohingya were facing ongoing genocide through mass murder, torture, rape, arbitrary detention, arson attack, enforced disappreances, kidnapping for ransom, forced labour, forced eviction, extortion, restriction of movement and forcibly use as human shields. These are unbearable.
Since May 2024, Rohingya were under the control of the Arakan Army (AA). The situation is really bad without access to basic needs and humanitarian aid. The shutting down of the internet by the Myanmar military really made the Rohingya situation in the worst situation. The Arakan Army (AA) threatened to kill the Rohingya who sent out information using the Bangladesh line. The Rohingya lives are at stake moment to moment. We are very worried as the Arakan Army has taken over most 14th townships in Arakan State.
The long decades of international pressure and advocacy failed to stop the military junta from committing genocide and atrocities against its own people. This is a clear Genocide and atrocities and the crimes against humanity.
The ongoing genocidal attack has forced the Rohingya to flee the country seeking safety and protection. In this journey, thousands of Rohingya became victims of human trafficking and died in the ocean over the years.
We have come to the point that we have to take extraordinary steps in dealing with the Myanmar military as the previous efforts doesn’t seem effective to stop the Myanmar military from committing genocide and atrocities. their are struggling to provide humanitarian aid to the Myanmar people, including at the IDPs, refugee camps, borders, Cox’s Bazar refugee camps, and exile. We lack resources compared to the increasing numbers of Myanmar people alone who became IDPs, asylum seekers, and refugees inside and outside of Myanmar.
MERHROM calls upon the European Union (EU), and French government and the United Kingdom and United States of America and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the ASEAN member states and the United Nations, world leaders, civil society organizations, faith-based organizations, community-based organizations, and the international community to increase efforts to end conflict, war, and genocide and continue their support to all refugees around the world particularly in building our resilient to face various challenges as refugees living in exile while waiting for a durable solution to come.
The Myanmar military and the Arakan Army (AA) must be made accountable for the Rohingya Genocide without further delay. The ICJ and ICC process must be sped up in whatever situation in order to deliver justice to the Rohingyas.
Recognizing the impact of the Anti-Rohingya Campaign towards the Rohingya in Myanmar and in exile, we need your leadership and interventions to end the Anti-Rohingya Campaign which is worsening day by day especially in the various social media platforms. The Anti-Rohingya Campaign is very dangerous as it can kill the affected community, apart from the hate crime perpetuated on Rohingya following the hate campaign. Therefore, we request for your targeted interventions to end the Anti-Rohingya Campaign worldwide as it reduces international support for the Rohingya. This includes ongoing dialogues with the social media platforms to end Anti - Rohingya Campaign,
hate speech and the xenophobia.
