Familial #hypercholesterolemia (FH) is a family of genetic disorders characterized by impaired hepatic clearance of low-density #lipoprotein (LDL) particles, due to pathogenic variants that impair #LDL receptor function.
💡 This JAMA Insights explores FH, including assessment and diagnosis, effective treatments, and management of both homozygous and heterozygous FH. https://t.co/WyCoTAmz28

Sharing a slide from my recent talk on the future of obesity pharmacotherapy at the 34-lea Congres Național al Societății Române de Endocrinologie in București, România, illustrating the comparative effectiveness of current and emerging obesity medications.

Hypoglycaemia rates do not differ between genders in the Hypo-METRICS study, but women report more symptomatic hypoglycaemia and a different symptom profile to men https://t.co/yLLNyM5kLF 🔓️

@NatureRevEndo

Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) affects nearly one in three adults worldwide, yet many cases remain undiagnosed until advanced fibrosis or cirrhosis develops. So, which patients should clinicians actually be screening?
In the latest episode of the Beyond Journal Club podcast from @COREIMpodcast and NEJM Group, the hosts unpack the evolving language of steatotic liver disease and discuss two major trials: MAESTRO-NASH studying resmetirom, the first FDA-approved liver-directed therapy for MASH, and ESSENCE, evaluating semaglutide in biopsy-confirmed disease.
Listen to the full episode to understand where the field is headed, which patients deserve closer attention, and how metabolic liver disease is increasingly becoming part of everyday primary care and hospital medicine: https://t.co/xJSWsDdsm6

How Obesity Contributes to Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD)
⚡ Adipocyte storage gets exceeded → fatty acids leak into the bloodstream and accumulate in ectopic tissue, including perirenal & renal sinus fat
🔺 Hormonal shift: activates RAAS + sympathetic nervous system
Polyphenols and Cardiovascular Diseases: Molecular Insights & Nutraceutical Advances
▶️ Polyphenols, a structurally diverse class of bioactive compounds widely distributed in plant-based foods, confer potent redox-modulating properties.
▶️ Dietary polyphenols exert cardioprotective effects through antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, & endothelial-modulating mechanisms.
✅️ This review provides an updated and integrative analysis of the molecular mechanisms underlying the cardioprotective effects of polyphenols, emphasizing their role in endothelial function and nitric oxide bioavailability

💉 Survodutide, a dual GLP-1/glucagon agonist, with Phase 3 results specifically in those with metabolic-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD).
⬇️ 84% of survodutide group met primary endpoint of >30% liver fat content reduction by MRI, compared to 24% of placebo.
⬇️ Survodutide group had 12% weight reduction vs. 1% with placebo.
🔑 Glucagon agonism likely has direct liver benefits, independent of weight loss

Association between advanced glycation end products (AGEs) and bone mineral density (BMD) in Mexican population
⚠️ Elevated serum AGEs levels are associated w/lower BMD over time, particularly among women. These findings suggest a potential role of AGEs in bone deterioration & their relevance in clinical risk assessment.
Highlights:
▶️ Higher serum AGEs are linked to lower BMD over time.
▶️ Associations were strongest among women aged 45 years & older.
▶️ Men aged 45 years & older also showed lower hip and neck BMD w/high AGEs.
▶️ No significant associations were found in men younger than 45 years.
▶️ AGEs may contribute to bone deterioration & aid clinical risk assessment.
