@jhabeeb1 Oscars cease & desist letter actually said the fight was going to be on Paramount+. I think hes just trying to leverage more $ out of Turki for himself & DAZN for taking this fight off DAZN. Oscar also doesnt give a shit about building Ryan's profile b/c he knows hes leaving ASAP
@B47436630@fighthooknews Interesting. I wonder if they are introducing PPV to Paramount as a means for extra revenue in place of what Netflix pays or DAZN PPV generates for Ring? Or just giving it to the fans for the price of a sub? Oscar already successfully blocked Boots-Virgil tho, so we'll see...
@B47436630@RBRRadio_ I dont think they will be. Netflix is my guess for Garcia-Benn but they do need to figure out something for fights Netflix turns down or DAZN refuses to give up on rather than just making them Ring cards exclusive to a platform w/no viewership like DAZN. P+ needs bigger footprint
@RBRRadio_ And yes, I know Teo was going off on them on twitter. But just looking around & not seeing many other options out there for him. Plus he called Turki a DICKtator, still kissed (held hands?) & made up.
@RBRRadio_ Good catch. I do suspect itll be big (not surprising) news b/c of the timing: wanted as much media as possible covering it so chose White House event. Would think this might be the long rumored Shakur & Haney signings. Garcia-Benn fight announced & Teo signing my other 2 to watch
@SMuehlhausenJr I like that idea. UK deserves first crack at this fight thats literally generationally big over there. Taking it from them over whats a relatively small difference in Netflix $ compared to losing tens of millions at gate & on PPV every time Canelo fights in Saudi would feel wrong
@SMuehlhausenJr Just stating Trump would get a visa approved for him in two seconds if asked, just like he did Khamzat, and Turki is in biz w/the right people to ask. But Wembley been my guess & you seem confident enough in your info that I'll take your word for it that it wont get to that point
@SMuehlhausenJr Neither was Khamzat Chimaev (for VERY similar reasons to Fury) until Dana asked Trump & hes suddenly headlining back to back UFC numbered events in the US. Even if it werent Dana promoting event like he says, Turki has a good enough relationship w/TKO to get that favor called in.
@EzRawBoxing@ATokkers5 I dont think its a bad business move at all. The real opening for criticism is Saudi is willing to lose tens of millions on these Canelo fights putting them in Saudi killing the gate & PPV but they cant take a slight hit to put a generationally big fight for the UK in the UK?
@EzRawBoxing@ATokkers5 Netflix $$$. US population ~5x the UK one. It's well known that putting events on in afternoon in US has an enormously negative impact on viewership. What Netflix willing to pay for it on US primetime compared to UK likely made up a more significant difference than the gate.
@Godisalive2024@MrMondypops@boxingscene Plus what Netflix is willing to pay to put on the event in primetime in UK vs primetime in US are very different. Guessing they weren’t thrilled w/Fury-Makhmudov #’s considering they didn’t put them out. Might have scared them from off from doing another event in UK primetime.
@FrontRowBrian They are actually putting on a bunch of quality fights now. The issue is more w/them as platform. Impossible to generate interest in the sport on such a pathetic platform. Let alone build new fans for the future when startup cost of getting interested is $450+ on unknown platform
@Michaelkeay318 Possibly, think it depends on the fight. Bigger fight = The Pru. Not as big = Boardwalk Hall. I think TKO will put on fights anywhere if its coming w/the right sized check from the local government.
@ScottBarrettUFC This would be a 3 weight champ status & peak actually worthy of GOAT talk. I think I still go with Jones combined dominance w/longevity but he accomplishes this & its a real debate. Not this nonsense about Alex who has barely faced any wrestlers, been KO'd by Izzy & beat by Ank
@robnashville The why is obvious: event is way too big & too much $ invested in UFC to help drive P+ subs to give it away for free. The gigantic fumble is not using CBS to push people to P+ for Ilia & Alex. Should've been 5 fights on CBS then Zac Brown "halftime show" & 2 title fights on P+.
@SMuehlhausenJr My bad, misread that one. That said, think you were taking him a little too literally when he says no one knows DAZN. That doesnt mean finding a singular neighbor, who frankly is probably a boxing fan if hes talking Bivol who isnt remotely a star here in US, proves him wrong.
@SMuehlhausenJr https://t.co/B5mZXMk3R0 I mean you definitely did. I'm not digging thru everything to make you look bad but theres plenty of others in there where you say Shakur doesnt sell tickets/subs/PPVs either when Mannix said he was finalizing deal w/Zuffa before pivoting in this post.
And if we are being honest about it, the only one with any long-term viability is Stevenson. He's a becoming a legit ticket and PPV draw. He isn't going to lose and his profile will only rise while the others either can't draw and/or lose a number of fights and their negotiating power will diminish and will get kicked to the wayside under Zuffa.
@yay_yee@ChrisC2780 100%. Dont think anyone is saying they should give the entire card away for free on CBS as that would be an abysmal biz move. But 3-5 fights on CBS & using that to push people to P+ was the play. Also would let them add viewership & easily hit most viewed in US (AVG, not peak).
@SMuehlhausenJr Let alone trying to argue that Bivol is a star in the US. C'mon now. Thats flat out ridiculous. We dont need to be going to Max Kellerman like levels of shilling for DAZN.
@SMuehlhausenJr Werent you downplaying Haney's stardom when Zuffa was rumored to sign him? Now that its for an argument that suits DAZN, hes a star again? Not a good look for someone who goes so hard after Pugmire/Boxing Scene/others in boxing media. You are doing exactly what you accuse them of
