Forest carbon is still a scam!

The fires in the Pacific Northwest are incinerating some major carbon offset projects which sold credits to a laundry list of major California companies, including Valero, SoCal Edison, PG&E, Chevron, etc. The Box Springs Fire has burned over 80% of the Opal Mountain offset project, which will likely now be 'retired'. And neither the buyer nor seller of these credits has to pay anything back. The seller gets to pocket the money they made, and the buyer gets given replacement credits by CARB, and can still claim they have carbon-neutral operations.

The costs of carbon taxes was passed on to consumers of gas, energy, and electricity in the form of higher rates and prices. And all we have to show for it is a burnt forest. Trying to store carbon in dry, fireprone forests is a bad idea, it turns out!
