Last night's operation targeted a significant presence of ISIS fighters in Northeastern Nigeria eliminating multiple high value individuals including Abu-Bilal al-Minuki.
@JoelCressman@coachsofi Yeah, I see what your intent is. But pushing one w/out the other, is detrimental. Practice aims to develop both adaptability & muscle memory (aka automaticity). The "real goal" depends heavily on the context & the specific skill being practiced. Thoughts?
@JoelCressman@coachsofi For example, I would argue that the muscle memory element of practice can reduce injuries and help with what some Germans might call prägen or einprägen. “Der Trainer hat die Bewegungen in das Gedächtnis der Spieler eingeprägt.”
Yes Coach!! I foolishly spouted “shoulder check” for the longest time! I got the garbage sneak peek I asked for. Pictures of what? Scanning for what, specifically when, etc. When you start to focus on this, the issues become massive billboards. 👍
I was never coached what to look for when by any coach I had from 10-32 years old.
I fear that even now young players are not taught the details of scanning, perhaps one of the most determinant factors for success.

@StevenVent101@_ToddBeane Ok, part of me loves this. The other part screams no!! Or maybe I just don’t understand where Sturgess is coming from with“possession is an individual event.” I find futsal teaches the exact opposite. While it elevates the individual game, it relies on team > self.
@StevenVent101@_ToddBeane Steven - Are you saying that Futsal is only meant to build skillful players? And do you mean skillful as in individual technique - or something more? Finally, do you mean that tactics can be learned alongside smaller formats and futsal? Thanks!
“We just need better athletes and then we can develop world class players.”
No.

Love this! I ran several sessions focused on high pressing, from every line, and associated CPs, while completing my recent @ussoccer_coach B License. Focusing on bravery, mentality, teamwork & communication are key! 👍🔥
#SundayShare@SundayShare10 a nice video here of Eddie Howe talking about some of the psychological aspects of high pressing and how the ‘risks’ that players take are rewarded with results and over time, the novelty of high pressing with the whole team doesn’t feel as risky to the players, promoting even more buy in.
What we find even more interesting is that this is still considered a novelty at the High Performance level.
We know this is being done all around the world and Academy and Club level.
Coaches, what do you think?
Most "drills" don’t actually teach players to think.
They rehearse patterns, not decisions.
Here’s how to design training that actually develops intelligent players: https://t.co/3emSwzfzP5
Should practices be directional? 🤔One of the main criticisms of rondos and other non or multi-directional games is that they are not game-realistic. But what does the research say?
A recent study using youth players put this to the test. Looking at variables such as positioning, physical performance, ball control/execution and passing decision-making, researchers set up three practices as follows (see graphic):
(1)4 v 4 non-directional possession game
(2)4 v 4 multi-directional game (servers at the ends)
(3)4 v 4 one-direction game (small goals at each end)
Results showed the only variable tested with statistical significance was 'passing decision-making' in favour of the one-direction practice over the other two.
The study takeaway was that all three methods can still be used by coaches for different outcomes but....
It seems, for developing skilful players, a practice that involves defending one area and attacking another will always be superior.
