The Forgotten 17 ethnic Amhara Students: A Cry for Justice,
More than four years have passed since 17 Amhara students were abducted from Dembi Dollo University in Ethiopia, yet their fate remains unknown. Their families continue to live in anguish, deprived of answers, while the world remains largely silent. The abduction, which took place in November 2019, was part of the ongoing widespread attacks targeting ethnic Amharas- the most persecuted groups in Ethiopia today.

Despite reports from human rights organizations like Amnesty International and international media such as BBC, no concrete action has been taken to uncover the truth or hold the perpetrators accountable.

A Targeted Abduction Based on Ethnicity
According to survivor testimonies, including Asmira Shumiye, the 17 students were singled out and abducted solely because they were Amhara. The attack was not random—it was another calculated act in the growing trend of ethnically motivated violence against Amharas.

Government officials have issued contradictory and controversial statements, some appearing to downplay the severity of the situation. To this day, there has been no serious investigation into their disappearance. Instead, their families have been left in the dark, suffering in silence.

The 17 Names That Must Never Be Forgotten.

The names of the abducted Amhara students are as follows:

These young individuals had dreams, aspirations, and futures ahead of them. Their silenced voices still echo, but their cries for justice continue to be ignored.

The Families’ Endless Agony
The parents and families of the abducted students have spoken about their pain in local media, including Abay Media, pleading for help and demanding accountability.

Despite their repeated appeals, the Ethiopian government and international institutions have failed to provide answers. Instead, they remain trapped in a never-ending nightmare, where hope is slowly fading, but the pain remains as raw as ever.

Where is the Outrage? Where is the Justice?
The international community has remained largely silent on this issue. How can 17 students simply disappear without a trace? How long will justice be delayed?

We demand that:
✅ The Ethiopian government provides immediate answers about the whereabouts of these 17 students.
✅ International human rights organizations should conduct transparent investigation.
✅ The perpetrators of this crime be held accountable for their actions.

The world cannot afford to forget these students. Their lives matter. Their stories deserve justice.

Bertukan was abducted for over a year and a half by government-affiliated forces and brutally gang-raped. Instead of receiving justice, she was arrested and forced to deny her own suffering in a state-produced documentary. To further discredit her, the government fabricated evidence, presenting another woman in a wedding dress as "Bertukan."

This is not just a cover-up—it is psychological torture. Silencing victims and rewriting their stories is a hallmark of oppressive regimes. If the government is going this far to discredit her, it only reinforces how much they fear the truth coming out.

Her whereabouts remain unknown. Where is the independent investigation? Do human rights organizations know about her case? Has anyone spoken out? If the regime is this desperate to erase her story, it proves they see her testimony as a serious threat to their narrative

Birtukan Temesgen Kebede survived the unthinkable, only to be silenced by the Ethiopian government. The journalist who told her story has been arrested, and the media was forced to delete the interview.

The second largest Ethnic group in Ethiopia was silenced and mischaracterised during the Ethio-Tigray war in order for the Biden administration to convey a false narrative about the Amhara ethnic group and restore their favorite Marxist- Leninist oligarchy, the Tigray Peoples Liberation Front or TPLF to power. When that failed, they jumped behind the current prime ministers EthnoFascist Oromo Prosperity Party to be their new puppets on the Horn of Africa. There are hundreds if not thousands of us who personally witnessed hypocritical language and dealings of USAID in Ethiopia during the last war.

A video circulating on social media shows a young man in Oromia being executed by soldiers at point-blank range.

This killing highlights a disturbing act of brutality, and raises broader concerns about how many such killings might be occurring unnoticed or undocumented.

My thoughts are with the victims and his families, whom I'm told were forces to watch the killing.
