https://t.co/dn1iZ60h9s @EcoSoc3315 Russia (and US) are among the 7 countries that fall well below the Paris Accord standards. It is interesting that Russia will lose funding without becoming more sustainable, as transnational funding is important for env. activism in Russia.
@EcoSoc3315 in March 2020, Indiana passed HB 1414, making it more difficult for coal plants to close down. The Representatives that sponsored this bill were given funding by NiSource.
@ShalinJN@EcoSoc3315 I agree with SungHan, this is really similar to the Ogoni and Shell readings. This is sad because it shows that this is a pattern of exploitation. Where is this?
@BloomfieldCole@EcoSoc3315 Agreed. Wondering if you have any insights on how to get through to those who deny climate change without attacking their values.
One point from The Slums of Aspen that has stuck with me is about the Colorado Seal. This image includes symbols that depicts how CO was built on resource exploitation.
The Slums of Aspen is a great book showing the hypocrisy in Aspen. Can we fully promote sustainability and protecting the environment without curbing our own excess consumerism?
@SungHanKang1@Dev40417195@EcoSoc3315 The Slums of Aspen highlights the fact that environmentalism is born out of elitism and racism. This book showed a lot of American nativist and xenophobic views.
https://t.co/iw88ybWLDh @EcoSoc3315 This is really important, and will hopefully cause people to think about how their diets impact the env. Not only does factory meat production require a lot of water, and methane prod - but CAFOs damage ecol.
https://t.co/C0IaQjZxo8 @EcoSoc3315 This reminds me of the biodegradable items we have on campus (rand bowls, 2301 cups, utensils, etc). They are only biodegradable industrially, and need to be disposed of in certain trash cans only. Falsely absolves of guilt of single use plastic
@EcoSoc3315 this is an interesting video outlining the effects of our current administration on US environmental policy. Also aligns with our research project, as it talks about the weight of lobbying. I did not realize that the US is the second largest greenhouse gas producer.
βIf Trump were to win a 2nd term and stay on as president, heβs likely to continue to promote the interests of the fossil fuel industry.β
The U.S. has officially become the first nation to quit the landmark Paris climate agreement. @Jess_Shankleman explains
@Brooke36409655@EcoSoc3315 This is very true. It is really important to acknowledge how environmentalism historically ostracizes low income communities and often serves as a driver of environmental racism.
