Honored to deliver the keynote address, sharing our story at Permian Health Lung Institute’s Clean Air Initiative in #Gambia at the @WHO 2nd Global Conference on Air Pollution and Health in Cartagena Colombia.
Today was another busy day collaborating with our partners at the National Environment Agency. We successfully installed air sensors at two critical locations: Banjul International Airport and Brusubi Turntable. These installations will significantly enhance our ability to monitor air quality comprehensively.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Civil Aviation Authority and National Road Authority for facilitating these installations and, importantly, for promoting the open sharing of air quality data.

We're moving forward with our air sensor installations in partnership with the Gambia National Environment Agency! Our team member, Julius David, is setting up an air sensor at the Port of Banjul, contributing to our clean air initiative. This marks the second air sensor in the capital, greatly boosting our understanding of air pollution in The Gambia. Big thanks to the Gambia Ports Authority for making this happen!

Our first ringing session at a new site in Kartong produced some excellent birds. Star bird was a Yellow-breasted Apalis. This species is very localised in The Gambia, and we ring only a few each year. Many thanks to Sunkaru Touray @stouraymd for permission to operate here.
Health Advisory: Poor Air Quality Alert in Gambia
Due to the ongoing Harmattan dust storms, air quality in Gambia is currently very poor. To protect your health, please take the following precautions:
- Limit outdoor activities as much as possible. 🏠
- If you need to be outside, consider wearing a mask to reduce dust inhalation. 😷
- Stay hydrated and monitor any health symptoms, particularly respiratory issues. 💧
Stay safe and prioritize your health! See more information from the @MohGambia: https://t.co/4UKKAc8yGz

🎉 Mission Accomplished!
We're excited to announce the successful installation of Sailingo-1 (Eagle-1), the first reference-grade monitor in #Gambia, at the National Environment Agency's monitoring site in Kanifing. This achievement is a key milestone in our Clean Air Initiative.
A special thank you to MetOne Instruments, the United States EPA (@EPA), and especially the Energy Policy Institute at the University of Chicago (@UChiEnergy) Clean Air Award for believing in us and supporting our mission to close the air quality data gaps in The Gambia.
With the addition of Sailingo-1 and our nationwide network of low cost air sensors from @IQAir , we are now well-equipped to monitor air pollution effectively and shape policies aimed at establishing interim targets for the country.
We look forward to seeing how the data from Sailingo-1 and our network will drive positive change, enhancing the lives and health of all #Gambians.

The Gambia National Environment Agency has successfully installed their first IQAir AirVisual AVO air quality sensor at the Kanifing monitoring site! 🎉
This is the first in a series of sensors that the NEA will be deploying as part of our clean air initiative. Through this partnership, we are gradually building local capacity for air quality monitoring and device testing in The Gambia. 🌍💨
A big thank you to @UChiEnergy and @IQAir for their invaluable support!
