Outbreaks move quickly. Financing must move quickly too.
I welcome the @Pandemic_Fund Board’s decision to mobilize up to US$220.6 million in emergency financing for the Ebola response in Central and Eastern Africa.
This is timely and strategic support that will help countries contain transmission, protect communities and strengthen the systems needed to prevent, detect and respond to future health threats.
Thank you to the Pandemic Fund for moving with urgency.

Supported by @USForeignAssist, IOM 🇺🇬, together with @MinofHealthUg, has deployed an OmniSense Sentry IV thermo scanner at Entebbe International Airport to strengthen screening of travellers for #Ebola. The machine detects individuals with elevated temperatures within groups.
"Every outbreak has strengthened our expertise, systems and workforce, making us faster and more effective with each response," said @DianaAtwine, Principal Secretary of @MinofHealthUG during today's @WHOAFRO press briefing on the #Ebola outbreak in 🇨🇩 and 🇺🇬.
Current Ebola update as of 4 June 2026.
It’s important to note that all the cases under treatment are progressing and recovering well.
The new case is a Congolese national, an imported case.
The country remains safe and open for business, leisure and trade.

Epidemics do not respect borders. Africa's response to health emergencies must be defined by Africa itself.
Read the latest Financial Times op-ed by Director General @Dr_JeanKaseya on why Africa's health security must be built on African leadership, African capacity, and African solutions.
As countries respond to #Ebola outbreaks in the DRC and Uganda, Africa CDC continues to support health authorities and protect communities.

As UG appears to record more new cases of BDBV disease, I would like to talk about the ‘bubble’ created around these cases. These new cases are among contacts, already in quarantine and now moved into isolation for treatment; and carry no risk to the community.
#BusinessasUsual
Know how Ebola spreads: direct contact with bodily fluids of an infected person or contaminated materials.
Stay protected. Wash hands regularly, avoid contact with suspected cases, and report symptoms immediately.
Your action saves lives.

The WHO on Tuesday dramatically scaled back the number of suspected Ebola cases in central Africa to 116, down from more than 900 previously, with 330 cases now confirmed.

Great and tragic news at once.
Emmanuel, the 5-year old featured in this report, has since recovered and left the Ebola ward, his father told me.
But the lab technician I met in the next ward deteriorated and died last night. His name was Bienfaits.
