"Act Now: Protect Our Present, Secure Our Future" - the theme for the World Antimicrobial Resistance Week.

Today, we joined the world to mark #WAAW2025 at the 10th National AMR Conference in Uganda — a reminder that antimicrobial resistance is already costing lives and livelihoods.

In Uganda, the losses are increasing and are devastating:
📌 26,000+ deaths linked to AMR (2021)
📌 Economic losses hit USD 500M
📌 Healthcare-acquired resistant infections cost USD 62M yearly

With support from the UK DHSC’s #FlemingFund through UK Aid managed by @MottMacDonald and in collaboration with @MinofHealthUG, @MAAIF_Uganda, Ministry of Water, @ugwildlife, our consortium partners: @hepsuganda, Makerere COVAB, I-Train and Evaluate Center (i-TEC) and @biomedics_P, and other implementing partners, Uganda is taking bold steps to fight AMR— but we must all join in:
✔️ Get tested before receiving treatment
✔️ Don’t self-medicate
✔️ Complete your antibiotics
✔️ Don’t share or misuse antibiotics
✔️ Dispose of expired drugs safely
